ADDISON P. S. DEEM, OF BELPRE, OHIO.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADDIsoN P. S. DEEM, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Belpre, in the county of Washington and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Display Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bill files and has for its object the provision of a device of this character especially designed for use upon a desk and which serves to hold small bills or the like although the same is equally useful, when constructed on a larger scale, for holding large quantities of papers and the like.
A further object is to provide a bill file the pointed bill engaging arm of which has improved means for holding it in a predetermined position relative to its support.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of What is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of the invention, the pre ferred form of the device has been shown.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, A designates a frame consisting of upstanding legs 1, formed of strips of sheet metal or the like and a transverse member 52 riveted or otherwise secured to the members 1 and formed of a similar material. Lugs 3 are formed on the legs or side members 1 by cutting parallel slits into said members and forcing the material between the slits rearwardly to produce spaces of a size to admit the edge portions of a card or plate having display or advertising matter thereon, a calendar, or the like.
A receptacle 35 is secured to and extended between the legs 1 adjacent the lower ends thereof, this receptacle being provided with a partition 37 and there being an offset lug 36 in the back wall of the receptacle and which is similar to the lugs 3 heretofore described, this lug serving to support the card or the like engaged by the lugs 3. A pivoted finger 10 slightly olfset at its lower end, is carried by the top member 2 and may be swung so as to engage the display card for Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented Jan. 10, 1911. Serial No. 574,882.
While the parts hereinbefore described all constitute desirable parts of a supporting structure, the present invention resides in a bill file adapted to be carried by said structure. One of the side members 1 has lugs 40 stamped or punched outwardly therefrom and disposed perpendicularly thereto, these lugs being formed with apertures to receive a rod 41 forming the attaching portion of a bill file. The upper end of the rod 41 is turned outwardly at right angles as at 42 and is then extended downwardly to form a hanger 43 which is formed with arched portions 6 and f adjacent its upper and lower end, which portions are located so as to normally lie beneath the planes of the lugs 40. Hanger 43 is extended outwardly at its lower end andmerges into an upwardly extending arm 44 which has a sharp pointed upper end over which the bills are placed. The opposite sides of the upper lug 40 are formed with seats 9, in order that when a bill file is not in use the pointed arm 44, may be moved over to engage in one or the other of the seats g. It will be seen that, in order to move the bill file from one side to the other, the same must be raised so as to bring the arches e, f, into alinement with lugs 40. Otherwise the bill file cannot be turned from any one of its three positions, owing to the fact that the lugs 40 have either their sides or their front ends in engagement with the hanger 43 of the bill file. When, however, the bill file is raised so that the arches e, f, ali'ne with the lugs 40,, the bill file may be moved to any one of its three positions in an obvious manner.
What is claimed is 1. In a display device, a frame, spaced guide members thereon, and a bill file supported by said members, said bill file consisting of a member movably mounted in said guide members, a hanger spaced from and parallel with said movable member and normally engaging the guide members to hold the movable member against rotation, said hanger having arched portions, adapted, when the leg is moved upwardly, to aline with said guide members and permit rotation of the movable member, and a pointed element carried by the hanger.
2. A bill file including spaced guide members, a member slidably and revolubly mounted in said members, means integral with said member and normally engaging the guides for holding the member against rotation within the guides, said means being shiftable upwardly to clear the guides and permit rotation of the member, and a pointed element movable with said member.
3. A bill file including guides, a memberslidably and revolubly mounted therein, means movable with said member and normally engaging the guides to hold said member against rotation, saidmeans being shiftable upwardly to clear the guides and permit rotation of the member, and a pointed element movable with the member.
a. A bill file including angular guide members, a slidable member mounted for rotation therein, a hanger parallel with said slidable member and normally engaging the guides to hold the member against rotation, a pointed element extending from the hanger, said hanger being movable upwardly to clear the guides and permit rotation of the member.
' In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiiXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ADDISON P. S. DEEM.
