Bmxelnn., of the parish of Ascenslon, State. ot' Louisiana, have invented ,a certain new, useful, and improved Mode ot Increasmg the Evaporatlon and Vaporization in Steam-Gen` craters or Boilers;` and I do hereby declare the following to be at'ull,clear, and exact description of the same, y

It will moreover bo noticed, that l and Bincline' a few degrees out ot'a true horizontal line or plane in one andthe same direction, whilst thcintermediate -group'B is placedat the same angleor inclination' in the opposite directitm. lhe object ot' this arrangement is to facilitate the uprisingot' the steam through the tubes into the boiler, `and the tilling ot' the same with water from the boiler whilst the vaporization is going on. l
In the 4construction of the furnace to be used in connection witltmy boiler, when made on the plan above described, a horizontal plate, D, separates group B from group Il', whilst a similar plate, D', separates the latter group from group B". ".lhese pla-tes, however, do not extend the whole length ot' the furnace, but stop suiiieientlyshort to provide openings at u b, for the free passage ot the heat and tianie from the lire-bed, (in la downward direction, shown bythe arrows,) at the opposite ends` thereof.
The plate I) is connected, at its front end, with a vertical plat-e and transverse wall, E, as shown, which said wall extends upwardly aboveI said plate, just as far as is compatible with an allowance oi' a sul'ticient space, 7, above its top, for the ready passage ofthe products 0l' combustion from the` tire-bed F, which consists ot any proper arrangement ot' grat-es. This arrangement, it will be observed, carries the heat and tlalne from the fire in the first place, so as to bring it in directcontact with the water-surtaces of the boiler, and cause it to envelop group B ot' the plate D, below this plate and around group B', thence through opening l), below plate D, and hence in contact, upon all sidesof the same, with group B", and thence through a suitable opening or tlue, at G', to thel chimney, provided to carry oit" the products ot' combustion, which chinn1ey,iorn1iug no part ot' my invention, I have not shown on the drawings. So that it will be perceived, instead of providing for the grad-l ual-ascent ofthe heat and lia-me, from the tire-bed, as in ordinary cases, I reverse the current ot' the same, and compel it to descend from the boiler unt-ilit passes into the chimney to be carried off and wasted, or used iu connection with. one ot my evaporators.
To produce a suilicient draught, under the circumcoustructed as described, a means for surchargingwith heat, alll the 'aste steam ot' the engines, and then throwing `it into thefront end of the furnace with the accumulated 'orce that is due to its enormously expansive power. This means consists ot'a large pipe or drum, c, placed transversely across the furnace, some with a number of small pipes or nipples, d, thatpoint. upwardlygit an angle ot' about forty-live degrees, so as to throw the steam that issues from them very nearly in the same direction with the current ot the products ot' combustion from the lire-bed at l.
'lhe wastestcain being brought from tl1ecnginc,by any proper conduit, connected, at c, iig. 2, with the pipe c, into the latter, itis there surchargcd with heat by the flames ot' the furnace, and hence rushes with tremendous i'orce through the nipples d, and thence through the open spaces at 7, n and l), andA thus secures my object.
'lo 'guard againstltoo great a draught, although this can scarcely ever occur, 'the conduit -tor the steam,
that leads into pipe c, maybe provided with a regupipes; thence through opening ,at the rear end ot'` stances, I combine with the boiler and furnace, when distance above the llire-bed, as shown, which is provided and control the draught of the furnace of a boiler or evaporator, constructed substantially as herein described, when the same is done by the means and in themanner substantially as herein described, for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the boiler A, groups of tubes B B B", and connecting vertical pipes C C C" 0',
when used in connection with a furnace, provided with a vertical wall, E, and horizontal divisional plates D D', with a pipe or drum, c, when the latter ,is provided with the issue-pipes or nipples d, and the several parts are constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as and for the purpose specified. v
