Description

@sind dimite.
HUGH E. OURRY, OF LOUSVILLE, KENTUCKY.
Letters Patent No. 101,233, dated .Mm'ci- 29. 1870.
,The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent: and making part of the sama To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, HUGH E. Cutter, of the city of Louisville, county of Jeierson and State of Kentuoky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam-Generators, for the purpose oi' keeping up a moderate pressure oi steam and at the same time supf plyin'g with water the boilers of steam fire-engines when not in use; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a-clear and exact description thereof, ret`- erence being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consist-s in providing a small upright boiler made somewhat similar to those now in common use, but so constructed as to be used V as a warming stove and steam-generator at the same time, and connected to the boilerof the fire-engine by. a series of pipes connected together by swivel or swinging joints, through which the steam passes into it, and by means of which a constant pressure of' about ten pounds i s kept up, and by means of the condensed steam the water. in the engine-boiler is kept at a proper height ready for use, the boiler of the generator being supplied with water from an elevated cistern for that purpose.
lo enable others skilled in the'art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation by reference to the drawing, in which- A is the generator, made of common boiler-iron, and in the same manner as that of the ordinary upright boiler.
B is the gauge-cock, for regulating the water in the boiler. Y C is the furnace-door.
D is the chimney.
M is the safety-valve, for the purpose of regulating the pressure of steam.
L is the pipe, by means of which the boiler is supplied with water from an elevated cistern or otherwise.
E E E E are the pipes, through which the steam is conducted to the boiler ofthe engine, said pipes being connected by swinging joints F F F, permitting them to be turned in any direction.
J is a thumb-nut, by means of which the pipe E is connected to the boiler of the engine G, for the convenience oi detaching the pipe suddenly when required.
I is a valve-cock, by means of which the water and steam in the en gi ne-boiler are secured when the pipe E is. detached. Y i
K K K are the whcels of a temporary steam-engine carriage.
G is the boiler.
H is the chimney.
Having thus fully described my invention `or imv provemeut, I do not claim anything as new or original in tlie'machinery constituting my improvement; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the generator A, the feed-pipe L, and the gauge-cock B, the steam-pipes E E E E with their swinging joints F F F, and the thumbscrew nutJ, and the valve-cock I, of a lire-engine, when arranged, constructed, and operating in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
HUGH E. CURRY. Vitnesses:
