APPLIUATION' FILED SEPT. 27, 1910.

SAWWA H. BRENIA, OF OLYPHANT, PENNSYLVANIA.
DRAWER-HANDLE.
Application filed September 27, 1910.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 3, 1911.
Serial No. 584,144.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAWWA H. BRENIA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olyphant, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawer-Hair dles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in drawer handles, the object being to provide a drawer handle which is so constructed that the same can be locked in position to receive the hand or in a vertical position parallel with the drawer, whereby the same will beheld firmly in order to prevent the handle from rattling.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide novel means for fastening the handle to the drawer so that the innerfaee of the drawer will have a smooth surface whereby all danger of the articles within the drawer becoming caught by the fastening means is prevented.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a drawer handle which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction, and one which is composed of a very few parts which are so mounted and connected together so that all danger of the parts becoming separated is prevented.
lVith these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction combination and arrangement of parts, here inafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification Figure l is a front view of my improved drawer handle showing the application of the same to a drawer. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one of the handle receiving members. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of a portion of the handle.
In carrying outmy improved invention, I employ a plate A which is adapted to be arranged on the face of the drawer, and is provided with openings adapted to register with the openings B formed in the drawer B, and through which the sleeve portions C of fastening mlembers C are adapted to pass, said members being provided with circular enlarged apertured heads C having their outer faces notched as clearly shown at C for the purpose hereinafter fully described. The plate A is preferably formed with a sign holder in which a card or any other designating member is adapted to be arranged in the ordinary manner. The sleeve portions C of the member C are in-' ternally threaded into which are adapted to extend screws D for fastening the members within the openings of the drawer, and the heads of said screws are counter-sunk in the inner face so as to form a perfectly smooth face, whereby all danger of articles being placed within or removed from the drawer being caught by the same is prevented.
A substantially U shaped spring bail E forming the handle proper is carried by the members C and said handle is provided with inwardly projecting angled ends E adapted to extend through the openings of the heads of the members C, and the side bars of the bail E adjacent the angled ends E are formed with wedge shaped lugs E which are adapted to co-act with the notches in such a manner that the handle will be held in its adjusted position when swung in the members. The handle is preferably formed of a spring wire so that the same will yield so as to allow the lugs to ride out of the notches when the handle is being swung from one position to the other, and itwill be seen that when the lugs are brought into alinement with one set of notches they will drop into the same and hold the handle in that position. By this manner of mounting the handle within the securing members the same is held tightly therein at all times so that the handle will not rattle when the drawer is moved, and it will be seen that by swinging the handle into a horizontal position the lugs will drop into the notches so as to hold the handle in this position so that the same can be readily grasped by the hand and when the handle is swung so as to lie parallel with the face of the drawer, either above or below the securing members, the lugs are held within the grooves so as to hold the handle in that position.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a handle which is formed of a sprin bail so mounted and c0- acting with securing members having enlarged outer faces that the same will be held firmly in its adjusted position.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a pair of apertured members having notches formed in their faces, of a spring bail pivotally mountnotched sides, of a spring bail provided with ed 1n sald members, lugs formed on said ball angled ends mounted 1n smd securing memco-actmg wlth said notches, and means bers, sald ball co-actlng with Said notches.
adapted to secure said members to a drawer SA\V\VA H. BRENIA. 5 front. Htnesses:
2. The combination with a pair of secur- A. J. CHECHIM,
ing members having apertured ends and MAFSCJKUDER.
