To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD HALLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland. in the county of Cuyahoga and State of bio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Ash Protectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to a class of articles which may be designated as an attachment for use with a cigar when the same is being smoked;

The object of the invention is to rovide a protecting envelop for the'eigar w ich will cover all of the body of the cigar except that portion which is placed within the mouth. of the smoker.

The device provides a protecting cover for the cigar, and at the same time catches all ashes which may drop from the smoked end of the cigar and thus prevents their falling upon the floor if the cigar be smoked within the house or prevents their falling upon the clothes of the smoker.

My device once being secured upon the cigar need not be removed for adjustment but will permit the smoking of the entire cigar after the device is once placed thereon.

Reference should be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device secured to a cigar; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder when open; Fig. 3 is a section upon the line 33 of Fig. 1; and

gig. 4 is a section upon the line 44 of ig. 1.

The body of the holder consists of two

parts

1 and 2 which parts at their rear ends are carried upon parts of a

collar

3 and 4 which are hinged together at as will be clearly seen from Figs. 2 and 3.

The

parts

1 and 2 are formed of a reticulated material preferably a Wire screening and are shaped so that when closed they will embrace the body of a cigar. The portion 1 carries a circular end member 6 with which the end of the member 2 cooperates when the device is closed and thus prevents ashes from falling from the end. of the holder. The part 4 of the collar is provided with a tongue 7 which is formed with a rid e therein, indicated at 8. The portion 3 of the collar is formed with a series of depressions 9 with which the ridge 8 may cooperate. By

the said members being secured to one of providing the three ridges it is possible to grip the cigar tightly when the collar is closed and thus provide for a variation in the size of difl'erent cigars.

As shown in Fig. 4 the edges of the memhers I and 2 overlap each other and thus prevent any spreading apart of the

The reticulated portion is of such mesh that it will hold the cigar ashes and yet will permit the free passage of air through the same.

The outside of each of the

3 and 4 is provided with a covering of heat insulating material 9. This material may be of any well known substance and in practice I prefer to use asbestos.

It will be noted that with the device which I have provided, it is ul'inecessary to adjust tl1e device after it has once been placed upon the cigar. In this respect it differs from all devices of its character which are at present known.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A cigar ash protector consisting of a two part reticulated covering for said cigar and extending from one end to substantially the other end thereof, and means for holding said reticulated covering upon the cigar. with the edges of the two parts overlapping.

2. A cigar ash protector. consisting of a two-part reticulated member, means for holding the said parts together and for securing them to the cigar, with their longitudinal edges overlapping.

3. A cigar ash protector comprising two reticulated members which are shaped to conform to the shape of the cigar, a collar to which the said members are secured at one end, the said collar being hinged, and means upon the collar for fastening the two parts thereof together.

4. A cigar ash protector comprising two rounded members, the edges of which overlap when they are in place upon the cigar, a collar to which the ends of the said members are secured, said collar being formed of two parts which are hinged together, and means upon the collar for securing the two portions thereof together.

5. A cigar ash protector comprising two reticulated members which are adapted to envelop a cigar, a two-part collar, each of the parts of the collar, a tongue projecting from one of said collars, a ridge u n said tongue,- and de ressions formed. in t e other part of the sai collar with which the ridge on the tongue may cooperate and grip the agar.

6. A cigar ash protector comprising two cooperating reticulated members which envelop a clgar, a clamping member with which said reticulated members cooperate, and heat insulating material carried by said clampingmembers.

7. A cigar ash protector comprising two reticulated members which cooperate to en- I velop the cigar, a hinged two-part collar .to which the said members are secured,
