To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, Khanna V. l-lAYMAKnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Defiance, in the county of Defiance and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Duplex Account-Book; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to loose leaf ledgers or other account-books.

ln telephone and numerous other businesses it has heretofore been necessary to periodically enter the names of subscribers or other names or items into new books as old books became filled or at regular monthly or other accounting periods, thus entailing considerable expense and labor in the transferring of the accounts.

The object of my invention is to obviate such expense and labor in the handling of this class of accounts by the provision of a book having two independently removable sets of leaves or sheets, one set being adapted for the entering of the names of subscribers, or the like, or of items which remain practically unchanged for a long period of time, and the other set registering with said first set and adapted to receive the weekly, monthly or other accounts or items pertaining to the subscribers names or items on the first set, thus enabling the account sheets to be removed and others substituted therefor, and enabling' the names or items on the first set to be used as long as desired.

A further object of my invention is the provision of simple and eflicient means for holding the two sets of sheets in registering relation.

The invention is fully described in the following specification, and a preferred embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,--

Referring` to the drawings, l designates one of the covers of the book, or what might be more properly termed the base board of a Specification of Letters Patent.

loose leaf binding device. This board is provided on its top side at opposite ends thereof with any suitable or appropriate type of loose leaf binding means 2 and 3, a number of approved ones of which are on the market. A set of leaves lare secured in position at preferably the left end of the board by the binding means 2, and are shown, in the present instance, as being ruled for receiving what may be termed permanent data such as the names of subscribers or customers of telephone or other businesses, and for receiving certain other data which is not frequently changed. Secured to the other binding means 3 and projecting to adjacent the free edge of the set l is a set of leaves 5, which may be termed temporary account sheets. rfhese sheets are appropriately ruled for receiving the accounts of the business to which they pertain, and are preferably correspondingly ruled on their reverse sides, as shown in Fig. l, to adapt them to be reversed when one side becomes filled. The sheets of the two sets have their inner edges terminating adjacent to each other, and are horizontally ruled in registering relation so that an account can be followed across from one to the other without difficulty. This is also facilitated by correspondingly numbering the adjacent ends of the lines of the sheets of the two sets, as shown at 6.

it is apparent with this form of account book that when a book becomes filled, which usually occurs at regular periods depending upon the nature of the account and size of the business, it is only necessary to remove the temporary sheets 5 and substitute new ones therefor, thus enabling the permanent data on the sheets 4: to be repeatedly used, and saving the large amount of work and the expense incident to the transferring of the names or other permanent data of a business to another book when one becomes filled.

While this book was designed in the rst instance with the special needs of telephone companies in mind, and to obviate the labor and expense incident to the transferring of the names of its subscribers from one book or books to another at predetermined periods, it is evident that it may be used in any connection or for whatever. purpose for which it may be adapted or appropriate.

I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction or arrangement of the parts except in so far as such limitations are specified in the claims.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-

l. An account book having a plurality of sets of account sheets arranged side by side in contiguous relation, one at least of such sets being removably bound in the book and being capable of removal therefrom without disturbing the sheets of the other set.

2. An account book having a plurality of sets of account sheets arranged side by side in contiguous relation and ruled in registering order, and separate means for binding the sets together in registering position and permitting a removal of at least one set.

3. An account book comprising a base portion, leaf binding means at opposite ends of such portion, and a set of account sheets bound together by each of such means with their` free ends projecting adjacent to each other, one at least of such sets being removably bound in the book.

4. A device of the class described comprising a base member'having loose leaf binding means at opposite side edges thereof, a set of loose account sheets bound by each of such means, said sets of sheets projecting inwardly from such means with their free ends terminating in contiguous relation, said sets of sheets being ruled to register with each other at their innerends.

5. In a device of the class described, a

evene? holder having loose leaf binding means at opposite ends thereof, a set of loose leaves secured together by one of said means and adapted for receiving data of a permanent nature and a set of loose leaves secured together by the other of said means and adapted for receiving data of a temporary nature, said sheets having their inner edges projecting in contiguous relation and having horizontal rulings which register at their contiguous ends.

6. In a device of the class described, a holder, a set of leaves bound to one side portion of such holder, loose leaf binding means carried by such holder adjacent its opposing side edge, and a set of leaves removably bound by such means and having their free edges terminating adjacent and registering with the free edges of the first mentioned set of leaves.

7. In a device of the class described, a holder, leaf binding means at opposite edges thereof, a set of leaves for containing permanent data secured to one of such means, a set of leaves for containing temporary data removably secured to the other of said means, said sets of leaves having their free edges terminating in contiguous relation and provided with registering horizontal rulings, such registering rulings being provided at their contiguous ends with like designations.
