' Be it known that I, HERBERT W. O'r'ro, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blind-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to an improvement in blind or shutter fasteners of the class which provide for holding the blinds in an open or closed position.

The object of the invention is to provide a secure fastening which may be easily applied and convenient of operation and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.

In carrying out my invention I employ a cylindrical body or casing 2 corresponding in length to the thickness of the blind or shutter, 3 to which it is to be attached. At the bottom of the casing at each end is an outwardly projecting arm 4i, 5, preferably formed integral with the casing which is of sheet metal. At the sides of the arms are ears 6, 7 to support pintles 8 which also pass through ears 9,10 extending downward from latches 11, 12, formed at their outer ends with downwardly turned hooks 13 which normally bear against the upper surfaces of the outer ends of the arms 4, 5. The inner ends of the latches 11, 12, are connected together by a spring plate 14 which extends through the casing than which it is longer and is riveted to the respective ends of the latches. Preferably the ends of the casing are closed above the spring by end walls 15, 16. The fasteners are used in connection with the usual eyes or staples 17 which are located, one on the sill for engagement when the blind is closed and one on the building for engagement when the blind is open. In attaching the fasteninfrdevice a round hole is bored through the r:blind or shutter and the fastener passed through it so as to lit tightly and so that the arms will project at opposite sides. Downward pressure upon the spring will lift the outer ends of the latches so that either latch may be opened for engagement with or disengagement from the respective eyes or staples with which they coact.

I claim- 1. A blind fastener, comprising a casing an arm projecting` from opposite ends thereof, a latch hinged to each arm and a spring connecting the inner ends of the said latches.

2. A blind fastener, comprising a cylindrical casing an arm projecting from opposite ends thereof, a latch hinged` to each arm and a sprinff connecting the inner ends of the said latc es. I

3. A blind fastener, comprising a casing an arm projecting from opposite ends thereof, said arms formed with upwardly turned ears, latches having downwardly turned ears, a pintle extending through said ears whereby said latches are hinged to said arms and a spring connecting the inner ends -of said latches.
