G. R. LIBBY. CARRIER FOR GABLB CARRIER APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 16. 1908.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES R. LIBBY, 0F LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS, .ASSIGNOR TO LAMSON CONSOLI DATED STORE SERVICE COMPANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
CARRIER FOR CABLE-CARRIER APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 13, 1910.
Application filed May 16, 1908. Serial No. 433,196.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. LIBBY, of Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers for Cable-Carrier Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in carriers for cable carrier apparatus and its object is to provide a carrier which cannot be despatched until the cover of said carrier has been closed and which cover cannot open while the carrier is in transit.
In the accompanying drawings are illustrated two difi'erent forms of construction embodying my invention in which,--
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cable carrier in which the cover forms a part of the spring clamp for engaging the cable. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view through the center of Fig. 1 showing the carrier engaging the cable. Fig. 3 is a modification of the device showing means on the cover independent of the clamp for reventing the opening of said cover while t e carrier is in transit.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the difi'erent views.
A represents the receptacle or body of the carrier for receiving the cash, sales slips, etc., and B is a cover pivoted at C to the body A and which is adapted to be held normally open by a spring D mounted on the pivot C.
E represents an extension of the cover B and forms a movable portion of the cable clamp and is rounded at F forming a recess for holding the cable X. The upper end of said extension is slightly flared at G to permit said cable to slide easily into said recess.
H and J are two spring members forming the stationary portion of the cable clamp and are secured to the body A at a suflicient distance apart to allow the movable portion E to pass between when the cover is closed to engage the cable X on the opposite side. The members H and J are, like the extension E rounded at K and are slightly flared at their upper ends.
L is a stri of fiber secured to the members II and J and is adapted to support the carrier on the tracks M.
In the modification, Fig. 3, the cover I; is pivoted to the body a at c and carries the extension 0 which is adapted when said cover is closed to be held between the tracks at to prevent the opening of the cover while the carrier is on the tracks. 7' and h represent two spring members secured to the body a and forming a clamp for engaging the cable x. Z is a fiber strip for supporting the carrier on the tracks m.
Having thus described my invention and set forth a construction embodying the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is,
1. In a carrier for cable carrier apparatus, a receptacle or box provided with projecting members forming the stationary part of the cable clamp, and a cover for said receptacle provided with a projecting member adapted to pass between said members on the box and to engage the cable on the opposite side to that engaged by said projecting members.
2. In a carrier for cable carrier apparatus, a receptacle or box provided with yielding members forming the stationary part of the cable clamp, and a cover for said receptacle provided with a projecting member adapted to pass between said members on the box and to engage the cable on the opposite side to that engaged by said projecting members.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this second day of May A. D. 1908.
. CHARLES It. LIBBY.
