Application filed May 17, 1909. Serial No. 496,571.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB G. COHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Envelop, Remittance-Sheet, and Check, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to systems of keeping accounts, and particularly to a combined epvelop and removable check and remittance s lps.
In brief, the invention comprises an envelop or other strong receptacle for invoices or other papers, to which is removably attached a remittance sheet containing a record of invoices to be paid and a removable check to be used in payment of such invoices. Beneath this sheet is a blank or duplicate or tissue or parchment sheet with a removable carbon sheet between the two. Preferably a series of alternate remittance sheets and checks, and blank sheets are used, the envelop serving as the backing for the pad formed by such sheets, as well as showing on its top side, a carbon copy of all entries made on both the remittance sheet and check, and also serving as a receptacle to hold the duplicate record of those accounts which have been paid, after same is detached, as well as a receptacle to hold invoices or other papers, relating to said payment, or referred to thereon.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described and referred to in the appended claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accom-- panying drawings, in which,-
Figure 1 is a top plan view illustrating my invention; Fig. 2 is a side edge View; Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the pad made up in a series of sections.
In these drawings, A represents an envelop or filing receptacle, having the usual flap a and closing means I). It forms a backing for the sections showing on its face an exact copy or impression of items, or entries on remittance sheet and check, and the device as a whole makes up a pad and envelop.
, Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 6 V
Each section is composed of t first a top sheet formed in two remittance sheet on which the stated, and 2, a check or draft se a row of perforations c from the sheet. The other sheet 3 of each a blank sheet, or tissue or or if desired, a duplica which the writte carrie throug 1- h other carbo envelop w 101 said sheets are atta or otherwise connected, there by giving an exact copy or impression on the envelop of all entries or other data.
The top and bottom sheets of each section, are secured at their upper edges to the envelop A, which forms the backing and are perforated as shown at 5, to allow of their being torn off. In Fig. 3, a pad is shown composed of a series of the above described sections attached to the envelop backing.
The manner of use is as follows: Vhen a statement of account is received from a party or when an account is ready for payment, the amount, or if desired, the items, are entered on the remittance sheet 1, and the check 2, filled out to the proper amount. The items written are duplicated on the sheet 3; an exact copy or impression of which will appear on the top or face of the envelop A; then the top sheet is torn off and sent to such party, who tears off the check and uses it, retaining the remittance sheet, and the duplicate sheet 3 is torn off and filed away in the envelop together with the invoices and all other papers relating to said payment. The envelop may be devoted to only one account, in any event being properlv marked or numbered for the purpose of identification.
It will be understood that I do not desire to limit myself to the precise form and arrangement of the sheets, so long as the main feature of invention is adhered to.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with an envelop forming a backing and a receptacle, a top sheet removably secured to the envelop and suitably rnled to form a remittance sheet, and having a portion separated therefrom by a Weakened line, and properly designated to constitute a check or draft, a transfer sheet below the top sheet, also removably secured to the envelop, and a carbon sheet intermediate the two.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatnre, in presence of tWO Witnesses.
JACOB Gr. COHEN.
