CLAIR WHITE, OF SMETHPOR'I, PENNSYLVANIA.
T-SQUARE HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAIR VVHrrn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Smethport, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in T-Square Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in drafting intions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my T square holder showing the application thereof; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device on an enlarged scale; and, Fig. 3 is a side portion thereof.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
My improved T-square holder embodies a base plate 1 which is formed at its corners for instance with holes designed to receive screws or other fastening devices for securing the appliances on a T-square. The base plate 1 is formed at opposite side edges with upstanding apertured ears 2 through which a stem or spindle 3 extends. arm 4 is formed at one end with an upstanding apertured lug 5 rigidly secured to one end of the stem 4, as by upsetting the end of the stem, and the clamping arm 4 is d0wnwardly off-set or deflected near its opposite end, as indicated at. 6, and is formed at such end with a head 7, the upper or main portion of which lies in a plane below, but parallel with the lower face of the base plate 1, as clearly illustrated in the drawings. 'The head 7 is formed with a right angularly disposed flange 8 and the flange is in turn formed with hooked lugs 9, two of these lugs Specification of Letters Yatent.

being shown in the present instance, spaced laterally from each other.
The head 7, as is apparent, is intended to engage the edge of a drafting board, table, or the like, and hence in order to hold the clamping arm under tension, a spring 10 is coiled around the stem 3 between the fore most ear 2 and a collar 11 or the like secured in any desired way to the stem. At its rear end the stem 3 is provided with a finger piece 12.
From the foregoingdescription in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation of my improved T-square holder will be apparent. In the practical use of the device the base plate 1 is secured to the end of a T-square, the clamping arm 4: projecting beyond said end, as shown and the off-set head of the clamping arm being engaged with the adjoining edge of the board on which the T-square is laid, the arm being held under tension and thereby securely holding the T-square in place. Obviously, the device can be very cheaply manufactured and easily applied and manipulated.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
As a new article of manufacture, the herein described T-square holder comprising a base plate formed at opposite edges with upstanding apertured ears, a stem passing through the apertures of the ears, a spring coiled around said stem between the ears and bearing against one ear, a collar se cured to said stem and engaged by said spring, a clamping arm provided at one end with an upstanding apertured lug by which it is secured to the foremost end of the stem, the arm being downwardly deflected near its opposite end and formed at said end with a head which extends in a plane off-set from, but parallel to the lower face of the base plate, said head being formed with a rightangularly disposed flange, and the flange being formed with engaging lugs, and a finger piece secured to the opposite end of the stem.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
