MUSIC HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 17, 1908.

- awue/wto'o CARL G. PETERSON, OF WEST DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
MUSIC-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
Application filed June 17, 1908. Serial No. 439,002.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL G. PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vest Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Music-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to music holders, and the object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive device of this character which may be readily and easily applied to pianos, organs, or similar instruments, or which may be used independent of such instruments if desired.
Another obj ect is the provision of a holder which may be adjusted to any desired angle with respect to the instrument.
IVith these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of elements hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1v is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the holder showing the support partly in section.
In the accompanying drawings the nu meral 1 designates the rack of the music holder. This rack 1 may be constructed in any desired shape or manner and is provided with a ledge or foot- 2 upon which the sheetof music is adapted to rest. The rear face of the rack is provided with an angular-shaped bracket 11 one side of which extends vertically upward from the lower edge of the racl; to a point in a plane with the ledge, and the opposite side inclines outwardly and downwardly and is of less width than the first-named side, the said sides engaging the ledge of a piano or other lnstrument as lndicated in Fig. 2.
The rack 1 is further provided with a support. This support includes a pair of members 18 and let, the member 13 being provided at its lower end portion with a collar 15 to receive the upper end portion of the member 14, and a set screw 16 extending through an opening in the collar serves to adjustably secure the member 14: therein. The member 13 is hingedly secured to the upper portion of the rack, as shown at 17 Vith this construction it will be manifest that the face of the rack may be inclined at any desired angle so that the music displayed upon the rack may be arranged to suit the vision of the player.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A music holder comprising a rack provided on one face and adjacent to its lower end with a ledge and on its opposite face with an angular-shaped supporting bracket. one side of which extends in the direction of the length of the rack and rises to a point in a plane with the ledge, and the opposite side of which inclines outwardly and downwardly and is of less width than the firstnamed side, an extensible support comprising two sections the upper one of which has its upper end hinged to the upper end portion of the rack and its lower end provided with a collar to receive the lower section, and a set screw for adjustably securing the said lower section within the collar.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARL G. PETERSON.
