Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September 28, 1910. Serial No. 584,315.
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW G. BRANDT, a. citizen of the United States, residing'at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful'FleXible Folding Cup, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention vide a collapsibledrinkin cup provided with a movable bottom an with a keeper, the keeper and the bottom cooperating to maintain the colla sible body distended.
Another object of tile invention is to provide a cup of the character hereinbe'fore mentioned, with a slidable keeper, operating in a novel and improved manner to sustain and to prou With the oregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings,Figure 1 shows the invention in perspective, the cup being distended; Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line A-B of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the cup folded; and Fig. 4 is a fragmental bottom plan.
The body 1 of the cup is cylindrical in form, and is fashioned from resilient, yieldable material, such, for instance, as celluloid; although some other resilient, yieldable material might be employed to advantage. The bod 1 is open at both ends, a strap 2, provide at its lower end with an eye 3, being secured to the inside of the body 1, ad jacentthe lower end thereof. Thisstrap 2 serves to uphold pivotally, the bottom 4, this bottom 4 comprising, as shown in Fig. 2, a base'5, and an upstanding flange 6 the flange 6 being provided with a loop 7, adapted to be received in the eye 3 of the strap 2, whereby the bottom 4 will be pivotally held within the contour of the body 1. The
flange 6 fits closely within the body 1, and
when the bottom is downturned, at right.
angles terthe side wall of the body, a water ti 'ht closure at the lower end of the body will be effected.
UWin to the fact that the bottom 4 19 provide with the upstanding flange 6, the
iipper edge of the flange 6 being pivotally connected with the strap 2, it will be seen ithat, although the bottom 4 may be freely tilted upwardly, within the contour of the body 1, the bottom 4 cannot tilt downwardly, under the weight of the liquid which is.
longitudinally of the body. The upper end of the guide 11 may be secured by means of a rivet 12, passing through the body 1, the lower end of the guide 11 being secured by means of a rivet 14, passing through the body 1 and through the strap 2.
A keeper, preferably takin the form of a ring 15, is slidably mounte between the guide 11 and the body 1. This .ring 15 incloses the body 1 adjacent the upper end of the body, as shown in Fig. 2, the ring 15 obviously cooperating with the bottom 4 in maintaining the contour of the cup.
' When the cup isdistended, as shown in Fig. 2, the guide 11 lies closely along the body 1,.as shown at 16, a seat 17 being fashioned in the guide 11, adjacent the upper end thereof, to receive the ring 15. Thus, when the cup is in use, the ring 15. will be maintained in the position shown 1h Fig. 2. In order to fold up the cu the ring 15 is slid downwardly '1n the lrection of the arrow Guntil the ring abuts against the lower end of the guide 11, adjacent the point 18. The ring 15 may then be swung pivotally in the direction of the arrow D, over the lower end of the body 1, and finally disposed in the upstanding position shown in Fig. 3. The bottom 4: is then pushed in, whereupon the bod 1 may be flattened out and laid in the poo. st of a garment, or in a suitable case.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is 1. A cup .ccmiprising a collapsible body; a bottom hinge to slidably and pivotally secured to the body and adapted to embrace the outside of the body.
the body; and a-keeper I '2. A cup comprising a collapsible body; In testimony that I claim the foregoing a movable bottom efiectmg a closure of the as my own, I have hereto alfixed my sigma 10 b0dy;.it guidia seclured t}? thedoutsidde of the ture in the presence of two witnesses.
body longitu inal y of t ebo y' an a body I i V inclosing ring slidable betweexi the guide ANDREW BRANDF' and the body and adapted to be swung over l Vitnesses:
the lower end of the bod and to be slid to B. STANLEY EvERTs, the top of the body. v J AS. E. WATKINS.
