Description

E D. LOWEY. HOSE SUPPORTER. APPLICATION FILED 001*. 29, 1909.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910,
milk Egg improved means whereby an extended UNITED s'ra'rns manna OFFICE.
EMILY JD. LOWRY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
arrest.
To all whom it may concern:
l3e it known that I, EMILY D. Lower, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a hose supporter having p and pressure are exerted so that the force exerted in supporting the garment is distributed over a comparatively wide area, with avoidance of ruptures due to the usual mode of engaging a contracted area and straining the limited section of fabric held around a button.
The characteristic features of my improvements are disclosed in the following description and the accompanying drawings in illustration thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of hose suppoiting means having my improvements applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the construction shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same with the parts separated and removed from the hose; Fig. 41s a perspective view of the parts shown in Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a View showing, in detached relation, my improved means tor distributing the bearing, with the preferred method of connecting it to the supporter.
In the drawings are shown the usual suspender 1, the hanger 2 connected therewith by the link 3, the button a fixed to the hanger, and the metal clasp 5 connected by the link 6 to the link 3, the clasp being adapted for passing over the button to effect the engagement of the stocking 7 A grip or bearing member 8, comprising a broad and preferably loose circular body portion 8 of chamois or the like having sewed or otherwise fixed around its edge a Wire or like expanding member 8", is fastened to the hanger 2 either by stitching 8, as shown in Fig. 4, or by an ear 8 secured by a rivet 9, as shown in F 5.
The lower portion of the hanger 2 and the button 4 being slipped beneath the stockin 7 the member 8 is pressed down thereon so that the flexible body portion fits over the button, and the clasp is passed over and engages the materials covering the button as well as the button itself. The bearing memher 8 is held against the stocking and the latter is held against the leg of the wearer Specification of Letters IPatent.
Application filed October 29, 1909.
Patented Nov. 29,1910. Serial No 525,246.
The flexible material used in the grip, be
ing held expanded by the comparatively stiff rim formed by the wire secured therein, acts over a comparatively wide area of the stocking,-that included within the periphery of the grip, with avoidance of the usual tendency to cut, strain and tear the stocking which results when the metal clasp.
is either engaged directly with the garment and button or indirectly engaged through a lining or flap, where the strain is centered around the small area engaged by the button.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A hose supporter comprising a bearing member having a body of flexible material and means for keeping said body expanded, in combination with a button member, and a clasp for engaging said bearing member to said button member, said means being adapted to coact with said button member and clasp to hold said bearing member in place. 2. A hose supporter comprising a bearing member having a body of flexible material with a comparatively rigid rim, and means adapted to engage said flexible material and clamp said rim upon the hose engaged thereby.
3. A hose supporter comprising a substantially circular member havin a comparatively rigid rim and a flexib e body loose within said rim, in combination with a button and a clasp adapted to clamp the rim and engage the loose part of said body to said button.
4- A hose supporter comprising a hanger having a button thereon, a circular member having a bod y of loose and flexible material .with a comparatively rigid rim, said member having an ear engaged to said hanger,
and a clasp'for clamping said rim and holding said member on a fabric and in engagement with said button.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my name this 27th day of October, 1909, in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
EMILY D.'LOl/VRY.
