DANIEL KOPS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
APPAREL-CORSET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 15, 1910.
Application led May 13, 1910. Serial No. 561,028.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing at the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to novel improvements in apparel corsets adapting the same particularly for use with persons whose figures have a pronounced or abnormal breadth. This breadth has been created or brought about in many women by the fashion of the times of a flat front effect and the use of corsets built to produce that condition, limiting abdominal development and in turn effecting a pronounced development or over-development of the thighs or upper part of the limbs, and this condition is present to a marked degree in many .women of full figure.
The object of my invention is to control or reduce this over-development tendency.
The corset of my invention is preferably provided with skirt extensions at the sides and back, around the hips or thighs and the buttocks, and the fabric of the corset or skirt extensions is notched or cut away over the hip or thigh at each side and the gap or space thus producedis filled in with a section of wide elastic webbing secured at its ends to the upright skirt extension edges. The intermediate fabric section preferably has a slight prolongation extending down behind the elastic webbing and a depending hose supporter webbing is secured thereto and other inclined hose supporter webbings may be secured to the lower corners of the skirt extension and webbing and incline toward one another and connected together and to the upright central hose supporter webbing. These elastic webbings under tension around the figure and especially as held down by the hose supporters have a reducing function of the hips or thighs.
In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the device of my invention, together with a device associated therewith in an apparel corset and which device forms the subject of a separate application Serial No. 561.027 of like date herewith. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the intermediate fabric and rear sections of the corset of my improvement from about the waist line to the lower edge and of the exterior surfaces7 and Fig. 3 is a similar view of the under surface or inside of the corset.
a represents the fabric body generally, and Z) the intermediate fabric section of fabric; al the skirt extension.
From the lower edge of the corset at the intermediate fabric section the skirt extension in each half of the corset is notched or cut away over the hip or thigh and the gap or space thus produced is filled with a substantially rectangular elastic webbing section of appreciable length and quite appreciable width, connected at its ends to the upright edges of the skirt extension at the said gap and in connecting these ends in position the intermediate fabric section Z9 is left loose, or in other words, might be formed into several plaits providing for the intermediate fabric section drawing taut under the tension in use applied to the elastic fabric section c.
The vertical edges of the skirt extension to which the elastic webbing section c is connected at its ends'are shown at 2 and 8.
The intermediate fabric section is continued in contracted form below the upper edge of the elastic webbing section c and down behind the same and this intermediate fabric section is preferably provided with a bone pocket and bone b1 which extends to its lower edge and from the lower edge of this intermediate fabric sect-ion there extends a central elastic webbing hose supporter d; the line of union of this hose supporter with the lower end of the intermediate fabric section being represented at 4, and I may provide and have shown as provided, inclined elastic webbing hose supporters e e1 which are connected to the lower edges and corners of the skirt extension a1 adjacent to the places of union or vertical edges 2 3 of the skirt extension where the same is connected to the elastic webbing section. These supporters e e1 extend toward the central hose supporter Z and the lower ends of these inclined hose supporters e el are connected to the central hose supporter as shown. The function performed by the hose supporters is to draw down upon the intermediate fabric section b, the lower edges of the skirt extension al, and apply tension to an apparel corset fabric with a molding and reducing effect upon the figure, and at the same time the elastic webbing section under tension exerts its tension around over the hips or thighs and upon the same and to the fabric 0f the corset to shape and mold in the figure with a reducing tendency.
The device of the present application and the device of my application of like date herewith Serial N o. 561,027 are advantageously employed in the same corset, but they may not be employed inthe same corset and hence have been put in separate applications.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a long body skirt extension apparel corset and in each half thereof, the combination with an intermediate fabric section, of a fabric body extending below said sec* tion and divided at the lower end of said section, providing a substantially rectangular gap and a substantially rectangular elastic webbing section in the back portion of the corset filling this gap and extending slightly above the lower end of the aforesaid intermediate section and at its upright edges secured to the edges of the fabric body and adapted for tension around over the thigh.
2. In a long body apparel corset and in each half thereof, the combinationwith an intermediate fabric section, of a skirt eXtension having its lower edge longer or deeper than the said fabric section and the skirt eX- tension divided and provided with a substantially rectangular gap at the lower end of the said fabric section and a substantially rectangular elastic webbing section in the back portion of the corset lilling this gap and at its upright edges secured to the edges of the skirt extension, and the said fabric section continued below the upper edge of the elastic Vwebbing section and coming behind the same, and an elastic webbing hose supporter connected to the lower end of the said fabric section and extending down behind the elastic webbing section.
Signed by me this 9th day of May 1910.
DANIEL KOPS.
