- Said body has a reduced rectangular extension at one end the longitudinal edges of which at the junction with said body are provided with oppositely disposed Specification of Letters Patent.

- the outer corners of the inner ends of said clamps are bent at right angles to provide biting spurs 7 which are pressed into the inner end portion of the pen rest 4 so that said rest will have binding engagement with the handle and also to provide stops that limit the movement of a pen in one direction.
- the improved tip may be formed by a single operation of a punching or stamping machine, and when bent to the pen receiving and handle engaging shape provides simple means whereby the pen may be clamped to the pen rest and also means whereby the tip may be practically locked to the handle, said means also acting as stops for the pen. It will be clear that the pen may be readily forced from the rest when desired by sliding the pen outward thereon without danger of soiling the fingers.
- a penholder tip formed from a single length of resilient material shaped to provide a handle engaging sleeve, a pen rest, resilient clamping members carried by said rest and adapted to slidably retain a pen on said rest, and inwardly projecting biting spurs formed on the extreme inner ends of said clamping members and adapted to force said rest into binding engagement with a handle and also to provide stops for a pen.

PENHOLDER. APPLICATION FILED APB.2 0,191Q.

Harmanfl .Wul'ff,
s ATEN OFFICE.
PENI-IOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN A. VVULFF, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to pen holders, and it has specially in view a novel tip therefor which may be formed from a single sheet of resilient metal and shaped to facilitate its attachment to the staff of a pen holder, said tip being provided with novel pen clamping means which will normally retain the pen in position for use, but from which the pen may be readily ejected without soiling the fingers.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pen holder showing a pen clamped thereto by the improved tip. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 33, Fi g. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan view of a blank from which the improved tip is formed.
Referring to said accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved tip is formed from a single sheet of resilient material having a substantially rectangular body 1 that is rolled to provide a cylindrical sleeve adapted for telescopic engagement with the handle or staff 2 of a pen holder. Said body has a reduced rectangular extension at one end the longitudinal edges of which at the junction with said body are provided with oppositely disposed Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 20, 1910.
Patented Nov. 8, 1910.
Serial No. 556,585.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the improved tip may be formed by a single operation of a punching or stamping machine, and when bent to the pen receiving and handle engaging shape provides simple means whereby the pen may be clamped to the pen rest and also means whereby the tip may be practically locked to the handle, said means also acting as stops for the pen. It will be clear that the pen may be readily forced from the rest when desired by sliding the pen outward thereon without danger of soiling the fingers.
What I claim as my invention is:
A penholder tip formed from a single length of resilient material shaped to provide a handle engaging sleeve, a pen rest, resilient clamping members carried by said rest and adapted to slidably retain a pen on said rest, and inwardly projecting biting spurs formed on the extreme inner ends of said clamping members and adapted to force said rest into binding engagement with a handle and also to provide stops for a pen.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERMAN A. WULFF.
VVit-nesses JOHN WV. CLEVERINGE, I. R. BLACKWELL.
