BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1910.
Application filed. February 19, 1910. Serial No. 544,812.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs B. Rosn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Victor, in the county of Teller and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Brush, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a brush designed to be mounted upon an ordinary sink in such manner as to be in position for convenient use in washing tumblers and other similar utensils.
One aim of the invention is to so construct the device as to permit of its adaptation to sinks of various dimensions.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing the brush embodying the present invention mounted upon an ordinary sink. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the brush, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view in a plane at right angles to the plane of Fig. 3.
As illustrated in the drawings, the device of the present invention embodies a brush and a supportfor the same, which support is designed to be attached to an ordinary sink in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The support for the brush is preferably extensible so as to permit of adaptation of the brush to sinks of various dimensions, and the said support embodies a tubular section 5 formed at one end with an attaching plate portion 6 designed to be secured to the sink in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1. Adjacent its other end, the member 5 is slightly reduced in diameter, as indicated by the numeral 7 and fitted upon this portion is a second tubular section 8. The section 8 carries a set screw 9 which is threaded through the wall therebetween at one end of the same and seats at its end in a groove 10 formed in the exterior surface of the reduced portion 7 of the section 5.
The section 8 of the device is formed at its lower end with a right angularly projecting arm 11 which at its outer end is formed with an internally threaded collar portion 12. The brush of the device embodies a stem 13 and a bristle carrying head 14, this head being cylindrical and the bristles 15 thereon being so arranged as to afford a cylindrical brush, the diameter of which is about the same as the diameter of the ordinary tumbler. A ferrule 16 is fitted upon the stem 13 of the brush and includes a polygonal head 17 with which may be engaged a wrench or other tool for the purpose of threading the ferrule into the collar portion 12 of the arm 11. When properly applied to the arm at the outer end thereof, the brush will project upwardly from the said arm at right angles, as is clearly shown in the several figures of the drawings.
It will, of course, be understood that in applying the device to a sink, the sections 5 and 8 of the support are extended to the proper degree to adapt the device to the depth of the sink after which adj ustment the set screw 9 is tightened. It will further be understood that the said set screw, by reason of the fact that it seats in the groove 10, Will serve to hold the section 8 with its arm 11 projecting directly forwardly.
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described comprising a member formed at its upper end with an attaching plate portion designed to be secured to the upper edge of one wall of a container in which the device is to be arranged, a tubular member telescoping the lower portion of the said first mentioned member, a set screw carried by the tubular member and holding the two members at relative adjustment, an arm projecting at right angles from the lower end of the tubular member and having a flattened under side designed to rest upon the bottom of the receptacle in which the device is arranged, the arm at its end being formed with a threaded collar port-ion, a brush having a shank, and a bushing fitted upon the lower end of the brush shank and removably threaded into said collar portion.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES BARTON ROSE.
