To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, L. J. MARCY, of Newport, in the county of Newport, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and improved Photographic Printing-Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference'v being h ad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 represents a verticallongitudinalsection of my improved photographic print-ing-apparatus.V

IThis invention relates to a new .instrument for printing photographic pictures, or, more particularly, transparencies, by the aid of artificial iight. Such plates are used as slides for magic-lanterns and other purposes.
The invention consists of a lamp of novel construetion, placed intoa `flame o r case, so that the light will be projected toward the negative through a narrow aperture of the case.
The invention consists, also, inthe genelalarxangement and construction of the aforesaid case or frame. A, in thedrawng, represents the lamp used in my improved printing-apparatus.'

Directly above the wick-tube of the lamp is arranged, across the case B, a horizontal diaphragm, c, which is slotted, to allow the wick to pass through it. The slot is curved similar to thel wick-tube.

The copy will, consequently, be as clear, for all practical purposes, as one produced by ordinary light, with direct contact.
The extent of the illuminated portion of the negative is regulated partly by the distance of the lamp from the negative, partly by the size of' the aperture in the slide. The slide is, therefore, made removable,
so that'. another, with a ditierenbsized aperture, may
be put in its place.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A photographic printing-apparatus, consisting of a lamp and printing-frame, arranged and operating together substantially as described.
2. The lamp A, provided with a curved wick-tube, substantially as andfor the purpose described.
3. The case B of the lamp, when provided with a slotted diaphragm, substantially as herein shown and described. n 4. The inclined perforated plate-s b b, formed on the lamp, for the purpose of steadying the flame, as set forth.
5. Thechangeable perforated slides C, or their equivalent, arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein' 'shown'and described.
6. lbe printing-frame F, made substantially as described, to carry the ngative and the sensitive plate, as described.
