IMPROVEMENT IN MUSIC-STANDS.

The Schedule referred t'o in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To aliwhom 'it 'may concern -'Beit known that I, EDWARD GONLEY, ofCincinhave invented a new and improved Book and Music- Stand; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled inthe art 'to make and yuse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, tbrmiug'part of this specification, in 'which- .Figure 1 represents a side elevation .of my improved book and music-stand Figure 2 is an inverted plan View of the plate or leaf.

Similar' letters of reference indicate lcorrelspondirn'g parts. p i Y This invention relates to a new beokor music-stand, which is adjustable in every respect, so that it can be set at any suitable height, and in any desired position tov suit the position of the reader, and which can also be used as a nursery-table, and for other purposes.

The invention consists in the general Yarrangement and combination of parts, as hereinafter more fully described. i v

A, in the drawing,represents the standard or, main support of myimproved stand. l

This standard is of tubular form, and rests on three or' more feet, a, or other' broad base, in which such tube may be swivelled, ,as shown.

B is the main stem of the stand. It is a cylindrical rod fitted into the tube A, so that it can be adjusted vertically, as well as turned in the saure.

A thumb-screw, b, in the lupper part of the tube, serves to lock the s tem in. any suitable position.

This arm is fitted through the standard, and can be any suitable degree of inclination, or to set the saine entirely horizontal, if desired.

To the face of the plate C is swivellcd, by a pin, g, the plate or leaf D of the stand.

The same is of quadrangular or other' suitable form,

and provided with a projecting ledge, 71., in front and' sides, or of other suitable arrangement.

A thumb-screw, 1'., serves to lock the leaf D in the desired position. 4

F, is an up-and-down adiustable sleeve, arranged on Ythe stem B, and carrying a platfbrmhj, ou which u candle, lamp, or other illunriuating-apparatus may be supported.

The vertical adjust-meutof the stern in the tube permits the adjustment ofthe stuud to any desired height.

yThe swivelled tube, or the vswiyelled stem in the tube, allows the stand to he easily turned without shiftingr the feet' a.

A If the tube is swivelled in the feet, the stern need not he made so that it can turn in the tube, and may therefore be prismatic.

The leaf can, on the pivot c, bc inclined or set horizontal, and may also, on the pin g, be swung laterally to any desired position.

When the leaf is set horizontal, the device may be used as a nursery, or other table, and the same may also be employed as a writing-desk.

The lamp-support may be runde removable, to be put out of the wayat daytime.
