insore'rnn Specification of lietters Patent.
P' 'tenterl L Application filed February is, 1910. Serial 1-10. ra-z.
Washington, have invented certain new and" useful Improvements in Insulated Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and, exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make 'and use the same.
' In the stringing of electrioconductors, such as telephone wires, etc, it has been customary to secure the conductor to a sup porting member by means of a short piece of wire or to twist the conducting wire around the support in order to insure its retention. Thiscauses much annoyance because ofthe snapping-of the wires at the binding point under the pressure of wind or ice, there being insufiioient play allowed the wires to withstand such weight.
It is the object of my invention to over come this trouble and to this end I provide a hanger which while afiording the neces sary support for the wire will prevent strain thereupon and one which may be turned in any desired direction relatively to its support without danger of twisting or crimp- 111% or otherwise injuring the wire.
:1 thc'accornpanying drawings, Figure l.
is a view in perspective showing the support attached to the side of a wall. Fig. 2 shows the support adapted for a turn of the wire. Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates block of insulating material, such as porcelain, and 2 a yoke, the spaced-apart ends of which are embedded in the block. In the periphery of the block a circumierenti l groove 3 is formed to accommodate telegraph or telephone wires and prevent lateral displacement thereof. The yoke spans the groove.
The hanger to any suitable support by means of a hook of peculiar construction by means oi which it may he so positioned as to allow wires to he strung at different angles without danger oi? undue twisting or crowding the blocks from their supports. The eye portion 6 of the in the form of an involute spiral, is
of such length as to provide considerable overlap. The space between the overlapping portions is 'suilicient to allow of the free passage of the yoke, and hen ce the block may be readily secured to the eye and at the same time it can be turned on almost a complete circle, with the eye oi the screw as a pivot. Itmay occupy a horizontal position, as shown in l. and 8, or verticel position as indicated in Fig. 2.
I claim as my invention:
1. A hanger or support for el ctric wires comprising a block having a circumferential groove, a yoke projecting from said block and spanning said groove, and a support having an involute spiral with which said yoke is designed to engage.
2. A hanger or support for electric wires com risin a block, circular in cross section, having a circumferential groove, a yoke pro jecting from said block and spanning said groove, and a screw eye in the form of an involute spiral with which said yoke is designed to engage.
In testimony whereof, l have signed this specification in the "presence of twe subscribing witnesses.
EDlVARD OPABBE.
