HANGER FOR ELECTRIC WIRES.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DAVID S. BEYER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Edgewood Park, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Electric Wires, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.-
This invention relates to wire supports or hangers and the invention relates more particularly to a hanger for supporting or defleeting the suspension wires of an incandescent light. p
The object of my invention is to provide a hanger that can be easily and quickly placed in engagement with electric wires, dropcords of pendent lights, etc., for supporting the same without injuring the insulation of said wires.
My improved hanger is particularly adapted for holding a suspended incandescent light out of its normal position. This has sometimes been accomplished in the past, by tying a string or cord directly to the insulated suspension wires, which is an unsatisfactory and dangerous practice, on account of its liability to fray and wear away the insulation of said wires, causing a short circuit, with incident inconvenience and fire risk. To overcome this, I have devised a simple and inexpensive hanger, for firmly supporting wires in such a manner that it will be practically impossible for the insulation thereof to become injured or defective. Furthermore, if, through long and rough usage, the insulation should be worn to such an extent as to reduce its efficiency, this hanger by int'erposing a non-conducting material between the two lead wires will prevent a short circuit, or minimize the danger of fire should such short circuit occur.
The detail construction of my improved supp fully described and then specifically claimed.
The drawing represents a perspective view of a wire support or hanger constructed in accordance with my invention.
The hanger is preferably constructed of hard rubber, fiber, or other non-conducting or insulating material, the body of the hanger being substantially of inverted U-shape form,

As shown in the present illustration, the hanger comprises two members, 1 and 2, each of which are somewhat Z-shape in form. The member 1 is of greater length than the member 2, and the top arm 3 of said member 1 overlies and rests upon the top arm 4 of the member 2. The members 1 and 2 at their lower ends are turned outwardly and upwardly to form cord-receiving hooks 5 in which the wire or wires 6 are supported. The two members 1 and 2 are preferably tied together by a connection such as a piece of wire which is doubled, and the two arms thus formed are inserted through the top arm 3 of the member 1 and the top arm 4 of the member 2, the arms being carried downwardly against the inner faces of the members 1 and-2 and turned upwardly against the outer face of the hooks 5 as shown at 7. The doubled end of this connecting wire is shaped so as to provide an eye or loop 8 to which a suspension cord 9 may be connected.
This construction of hanger is particularly advantageous for use in supporting electric light wires in connection with columns, brackets, trusses, walls, ceilings or other supports, the hanger being used for supporting the temporary or portable wiring.
The use of the eye or loop 8 enables the hanger to be supported easily from any suitable support, and the electric wires may be easily engaged with and detached from the hanger as desired.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hanger for suspension wires of incandescent lamps, comprising a substantially U- shaped body formed from two hook-shaped members overlapped at their upper ends, and a securing and reinforcing member formed from a piece of wire doubled and passed through the overlapped ends of the members with its ends bent up around the hook-ends of the members.
