Description
M. HEIM.
Cooking Stove; No. 9.728. Patented May 17, 1853.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MATTHA US HEINN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 9,728, dated May 1'7, 1853.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATrHAUs HEINN, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have made new and useful Improvements in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention has for its objects the providing an accessible and well ventilated chamber for roasting meat, &c.
In the annexed drawings Figure l is a longitudinal section through the stove. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the hanger to which the spit, &c., 'is suspended. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the ovens as temporarily withdrawn from the stove. I
(a) is the fire place.
(6) is an open space or chamber for roasting, of a semicylindrical form. At each end of this depend hangers (0), having each of them a button ((Z), over which the doors (6) being slipped are secured thereto by a staple A hole through both hangers and doors gives journal bearing to a spit (g). From the hangers depends a pan to catch the dripping. A handle (shown by dotted lines 1') enables the spit to be turned occasionally. The accessiblity and free circulation of external air make this arrangement a very convenient and efficient one for cooking meat.
I/Vhen it is desired to ascertain the progress of the cooking, one of the doors (6), may be readily shifted from its button.
The flue passage, after circling the front,
top, and rear side of the semicylindrical oven or roasting space, traverses the bottom of the oven (70), then up its back, then forward between the oven (70) and the oven (Z) thence upward in front of oven (Z), thence rearward along the top of said oven, whence dipping downward a short distance it escapes at (n) D is a damper which graduates the draft.
(0) is a boiler, permanently occupying the upper part of the stove;
(p) is a stand for dishes, &c.
The ovens are completely distinct in themselves and can be withdrawn from the flue spaces so as to inspect, repair, or clean any part of the interior of the stove. The ovens may be guided to and supported in their places by pins, flanges, or any usual way. Also the entire top plate (q) over the horizontal portion of the stove can be removed to cleanse, &c., the interior.
lVhat I claim therein as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
The open bottomed space or chamber (5) behind the fire, encircled at sides and top by flue and closed at the ends by shifting or movable doors, as described, constituting an accesible and well ventilated arrangement for roasting purposes.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand before two subscribing witnesses.
MATTHAUS HEINN.
Witnesses:
