To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Josnrri Honnscrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, State of W'isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hosiery Forms and Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a sock form and holder and particularly to a structure adapted to retain hosiery in extended position during the drying thereof.

The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved construction of sock holder having an adjustable heel portion together with a novel structure of holder therefor by which the form may be supported while the hosiery is placed thereon.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

The numeral 10 designates a standard supported by a base 11 and upon the upper end of which the holder 12 is mounted. This holder comprises a trough or way 18 extending longitudinally thereof and adapted to receive the sock or stocking form 14. This holder is provided at its opposite ends with pivotally mounted wheels 15 which may be of any desired character but are preferably convex upon their outer faces to facilitate the application of the hosiery to the form. These wheels are preferably of different diameters at the opposite ends of the form so as to accommodate hosiery of different sizes. The holder 12 is provided at its central portion with a series of upwardly disposed hooks 16 which may be used to engage the open end of the hosiery when the form is withdrawn from the holder so as to stretch the same. This holder is provided adjacent its central portion with a series of apertures 17 through which a stop screw bolt 18 ex- Specification of Letters Patent.

tends and is preferably threaded into the walls of the holder so that the abutment 19 may be clamped upon the upper portion thereof to prevent vertical displacement of the form. It will be seen by reference to Fig. 1 that the end of the leg portion of the sock form abuts against the screw bolt 18 and lies beneath the abutment 19 which prevents vertical oscillation thereof while the wheels 15 disposed at opposite sides of the trough guide the hosiery into position upon the form as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. For the purpose of adjusting the bolt 18 with different sizes of forms, a series of apertures 17 is provided at each side of the standard while the wheels 15 upon the ends of the holders may be rotatably mounted upon the screws 20 to allow a free movement thereof.

The sock or stocking holder 14 is preferably formed of .wire bent as shown in Fig. 5 to form the toe portion 21 and the leg portion 26. The sole portion 22 is provided with an adjustable heel member 23 slidingly mounted thereon and also upon the intermediate support 24 which is provided with an offset portion 27 to limit the movement of the heel member which is slidingly connected thereto. This heel member is adjustable to any size of sock and comprises an important improvement in a form of this char-* acter, as independent forms are not required for each size. The standard 10 is provided with a series of arms or brackets 2-5 disposed at an angle to each other upon which difierent sizes or constructions of these forms may be'supported when not in use.

In the operation of the invention, the hosiery to be applied to the form is stretched over the same when in position upon the holder and the bearings in the groove thereof prevent either vertical or longitudinal movement while the wheels assist in stretching the wet or moist 'oods over the heel of the form. When applied, the form is withdrawn longitudinally from the holder so that the article thereon may be dried in any desired manner which obviates ironing thereof. When the form is used in connection with hosiery such as stockings, the upper portions may be engaged with the hooks at the center of the holder so that when the form is withdrawn, the leg or upper portion of the stocking is stretched longitudinally into proper shape.

It will be observed that the form used is provided with an adjustable heel portion by which it can be conveniently adjusted to different sizes of hosiery by simply sliding the movable member thereof into proper posi tion to engage the heel of a sock or stocking placed thereon.

It will be seen that this invention presents a simple, efiicient and economically constructed form for drying hosiery and a holder therefor.

Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination of a horizontally disposed holder open at its top and one end, a form mounted for longitudinal movement in said holder, means to retain said form against longitudinal movement in one direction and permit its withdrawal in the opposite direction, an extension from said form, and laterally disposed means carried by said holder to prevent upward movement of said extension.

2. A hosiery form holder provided with means to retain a form against longitudinal movement in one direction and against lateral movement in any direction, and wheels disposed upon said holder adjacent the heel portion of said form.

3. A hosiery form holder having a horizontally disposed way open at its top and one end to receive a form, and an abutment extended above said way to prevent vertical movement of said form.

41. A hosiery form holder having a way adapted to receive a form, a stop traversing said way to limit the movement of said form inone direction, and an abutment extended above said way to prevent vertical move: ment of said form.

5. A hosiery form holder having a way adapted to receive a form, a stop traversing said way to limit the movement of said form in one direction, an abutment extended above said way to prevent vertical movement of said form, and wheels pivoted at the free end of said way.

6. A hosiery form holder having a way adapted to receive a form, a bolt extending laterally of said way, and an angular abutment carried by said bolt and disposed above said way.

7. A hosiery form holder having a way open at one end to receive a form, and upwardly disposed hooks located at the inner end of the form when disposed in said way and extended in opposite directions.

8. A hosiery form holder having a way adapted to receive a form, and pivotally mounted convex wheels disposed upon the opposite walls of said way at the free end thereof and inclined toward each other at the lower portion of the way.

9. In a hosiery form holder, a standard, a holder thereon provided with an open way to receive a form, means carried by said holder for retaining said form in position, and laterally extending supporting arms carried by said standard beneath said holder.

10. Ina hosiery form holder, a standard, a holder thereon provided with an open way to receive a form, means carried by said holder for retaining said form in position, and means upon said holder for permitting the adjustment of said retaining means longitudinally thereof.

11. In a hosiery form holder, a standard, a holder thereon provided with an open way to receive a form, means carried by said holder for retaining said form in position, and oppositely extending upwardly disposed hooks carried by said holder intermediate of its ends.

12. In a hosiery form holder, a standard, a holder thereon provided with an open way to receive a form, means carried by said holder for retaining said form in position, and curved friction bearings mounted at the free ends of said holder.

13. In a hosiery form the combination of a coiled toe portion and a continuously curved heel portion extended therefrom and terminating in a bifurcated leg portion, and a holder provided with means to extend laterally between said bifurcated portions.

1 1. A hosiery foot form comprising a frame forming a foot and leg portion, a slide bar disposed intermediate the top and bottom of said frame and having stop portions, and a heel portion adjustably mounted on said frame and connected to said bar to en gage the stop portions thereof.

15. A hosiery foot form comprising a frame forming a foot and leg portion, a slide bar extended from the toe of said foot por tion to said leg portion and having an offset portion intermediate its ends, and a heel member slidingly mounted upon said offset portion.

16. A hosiery foot form comprising a continuous wire frame having a coiled toe portion and curved rearwardly extending foot portions terminating in an angular leg portion, a slide bar extended from said toe to said leg portion and having an offset portion intermediate its ends, and a heel member slidingly mounted upon said offset portion.
