This invention relates to a cushion cap for-J the keys'of typewriting machines or for any manually-operated keys wherein the cap is found applicable and has for its object to provide a cap in a manner as hereinafter set forth and constructed of resilient material, preferably of rubber, and adapted tov be mounted upon the key and struck by the operator when actuating the key so as to relieve the jar upon the finger tips of the operator when actuating the machine of which the key forms a part. A further object of the invention is to provide a cushion cap for the purpose set forth in a manner as hereinafter set forth and which is so constructed as to grip firmly the head of the key whereby the cap will be securely retained in position without the em ployment of a hold-fast device or an interlocking element to retain the cap in position. A further object of the invention is to provide a cushion cap for the heads of fin er operated keys and which comprises w at may be termed a crown and which further embodies an air vent, whereby the crown will be held to its normal position.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a cap for the head of a finger operated key and which is simple in its construction, formed of a single piece of material, durable, eflicient in its use, conveniently With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arran ement of parts as hereinafter more speci cally de-.

- In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is atop plan view of a key cap in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of a cap, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the cap'illu'strating the same mounted upon the head of the key, the key being shown in section and broken away, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the cap.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the cap comprises a hollow cylindrical body portion 1 having a flat crown or crown piece 2 formed integral with the top thereof and a hollow inverted frustum cone-shaped extension 3---formed integral with'the bottom thereof. The crown 2 has its inner face formed with a circular recess 4 with which communicates the inner end of a laterallyextending groove 5. The outer end of the groove 5 terminates at the edge of the crown whereby the outer portion of the wall of the groove in connection with the body portion 1 provides a vent 6.
In Fig. 3 the cap is shown surrounding and mounted upon a key and referring to said figure, 7 denotes the stem of the key and 8 the headwhich is recessed in it's top as at 9. The recess 9 opposes the recess 4 in the crown.
