To all whom it may concern:

Hochclaga and Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manifolding-Pads, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrl Jtion, such as will enable others skilled in t e art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to manifolding devices, and more particularly to pads, salesbooks. and the like.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide an eiiicient device of the above character which will be capable of convenient manipulation.

Another object is to provide a device of the above nature of the manifolding type.

Other objects will be in part obvious and art pointed out hereinafter.

he invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangements of parts which will be exemplified 1n the device hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claim.

, Before describing my invention with regard to the structural features thereof, it may be noted inthe use of sales-books or devices of a like character by salesmen or clerks, a reduction in the time consumed in inscribing the necessary entries therein results in a ain'in the efficiency of such salesman-or c erk, as he is thereby enabled to wait upon a larger number of :customers and to give more time to the performance of his other duties. Itis therefore essential in gainin the above advantages iamong others, that t enumber of arts comprlsing the book be reduced to a nnnimunrj and that such ermit of a convenient and ready maniv u ation. By now explain my invent-ion, which I sha have attained the above and other desirable ends through the provision of a simple and cheaply manufactured structure.

Referring now to the drawing, wherein 1s shown one adaptation of my invention ap plied to a sales-book, 1 designates a pad comprising a plurality of series or sets of sheets secured together at the stub end of the pad, as by means of wire staples 2, which serve to hold the same a ainst a relatively rigid back 3, said staples a so operating to secure to the face of the pad a cover portion 4.

Each of the sets of sheets comprises a sheet folded along a weakened line 5 into a plurality of leaf portions 6 and 7 respectively, normally lying one above the other as shown, which leaf portions may be scored or lined in any desired manner. Eaeh of these sheets is preferably weakened as at 8 along a line adjacent the point where it is secured to the stub-to permit of a more ready detachment therefrom, and the end of .the upwardly folded leaf portion 7 falls short of the end of leaf portion (3 and lies adjacent weakened line 8.

Extending from the stub end of the pad and likewise bound therein staples 2 are permanent sheets 9, one sheet being provided for each set or series of folded leaf portions. and then detached from each other by. being torn apart along weakened line 5. Any desired disposition maybepnade of the detached parts, it being understood, of course, that sheet 9, having a transferred inscription upon its plain surface, remains permanently connected with the stub.

The further method of use of the salesbook is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, where in for convenience of description the several sets of sheets comprising the pad have been numbered consecutively and leaf portions 6 and 7 of thefirst set detached from the pad.

It will be noted that the leaf portion 7 of the second set-is shown raised to permit the permanent. sheet of the first set, which set in the preceding operation received a transferred inscription upon its plain surface, to

In a manifolding device, a pad com rising a plurality of uncoated sheets each 0 which comprises two leaf portions folded one upon the other along a weakened line, one of the leaf portions of each of said sheets being provided with an end portion to which it is joined along a weakened line whereby the sheet is detachable therefrom, and a plural-- ity of sheets having impression-receiving upper sides'and provided with a coating of transferring material upon their undersurfaces, said last mentioned sheets being disposed in alternate relation with said first mentioned sheets and one of said second men tioned sheets lying interposed between the leaf portions of each of said first mentioned sheets whereby two uncoated leaf portions will be interposed between adjacent coated sheets, said end portions associated with the first mentioned sheets and said second mentioned sheets being secured together whereby said second mentioned sheets will/be perma nently secured to said end portions, veach of said second-mentioned sheets upon the removal of the sheet between the leaf portions of which itis normally positioned, being 7 7 adapted to be superimposed upon the coated sheet positioned between the leaf portions of the succeeding uncoated sheet with its coated side engaging the impression-receiving side of said coated sheet.
