M. SALDIN.
LADYS KNIT DBAWERS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 28, 1000.

UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
MAX SALDIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW'YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN H. BOYCE AND HARRY R. BOYCE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
LADYS KNIT DRAWERS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 13, 1910-,
Application filed May 28, 1909. Serial No. 498,958. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX SALDIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Knit Drawers, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, formin a part of the same.
This invention reTates to ladies union suits and other drawers of knit or elastic material, the object of the invention being to provide a closure at the rear of the crotch o ening.
The c osure usuall employed consists of two flaps which are lapped over each other from opposite sides, to which closure many objections exist, especially the liability of the flaps being improperly lapped or accidentally opening, so as to expose the person, and the double thickness of the material and liability of thick folds and curling of the edges, which cause discomfort and interfere with the fit of the outer clothing. I avoid these objections, and secure other important advantages by the construction of the present invention, in which a single flap extending entirely across the crotch opening is used, as fully described hereafter.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, I have shown for purpose of illustration a ladys union suit embodying the invention in its preferred form, and this construction will i now be described in detail and the features forming the invention then specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the drawingz-Figure 1 is a side View of the union suit on the wearer. Fig. 2 is a detail rear view of the portion of the garment embodying the invention laid out flat. Fig. 3 is a front view similar to Fig. 2, with one leg portion folded back to show the construction.
In the drawings the union suit of knit or similar elastic material has the body A and the leg portions B, and is provided with an opening at the crotch, as usual or in an suitable manner. Instead of the closure or' the crotch opening consisting of the two side flaps usually employed, this construction has the material of the bod A extended at the rear to form a single fliip a connecting the leg portions at the rear on opposite sides of the crotch opening and depending below the crotch sufiiciently to cover the crotch opening at the rear. The garment may be formed in a single piece or of two or more pieces, as desired, and while a union suit is shown and the invention is. especially intended for such suits, it is of eneral a plication in ladies drawers of Enit goo s or similar elastic material.
My invention provides a closure which entirely covers the crotch opening, so as to fully protect the wearer against cold and drafts, or exposure of the person. The closure does not curl or fold at the edges as in the closure now in use and there is only one thickness of fabric, so that the. garment fits better and more snugly, and the outer clothes drape better on the wearer. The flap is entirely automatic, drawing back and up as the wearer sits down and dropping as the wearer resumes the erect position.
What I claim is A ladies undergar'ment of elastic fabric having a crotch opening and a single rear flap formed by an extension of the back and opposite leg portions of the garment across the crotch from one leg to the other, and depending below the crotch to close the crotch opening at the rear.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX SALDIN. Witnesses: J. A. Gnavns,
.W. H. KENNEDY.
