NECKTIE-ADJ'USTING MEANS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD W. BLOOM- FIELD, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented a new and useful N ecktieAdjusting Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a means for ad justing a necktie in the fold of a turn-down collar.
After tying a necktie which passes around a close folded collar the nip of the collar fold and the friction between the collar and the tie is so considerable that diificulty is experienced in endwise moving the tie to adjust it. This difficulty I have overcome by providing a clip for attachment to the tie at the back which clip has provision by means of which the tie may be adjusted endwise in relation to the collar.
The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accompanied, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clip, Fig. 2, a similar View of the sleeve or band by which the clip is secured on the tie, Fig. 3, a similar view of the handle by which the clip may be endwise moved to adjust it on the tie and Fig. 4:, a perspective view of the collar having a portion of the back removed to show the application of my adjusting device thereto.
In these drawings 2 represents a folded clip of thin light material such as metal or celluloid the corners and edges of which are carefully rounded, 3 is a band of similar material designed to be passed over the free ends of the clip and secure it tightly on the tie interposed in the folds of the clip, 4

in the collar 7 the clip will be at the back, and the band 3 is passed over the free ends of the clip and closes them tightly on the tie while allowing the ends of the clip to project below the band. The tie being placed in the fold of the collar and the col lar on the neck, the tie may be tied and thereafter if it requires endwise adjustment the socket 5 of the handle 4 may be passed over the downwardly projecting ends of the clip 2; and the tiecan be readily moved endwise without any undue strain being im posed on the fabric. A simple and useful device is thus provided by which a c0nsiderable amount of inconvenience may be saved and the destruction of the necktie avoided.
It is obvious that the handle 4 need not always be used as the downwardly projecting end of the clip 2 and its band may afford the necessary hold by which the tie may be adjusted without the handle, or a cord or tape may be secured to the clip.
Having now particularly described my invention and the manner of its use, I hereby declare that what I claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
1. As a means for adjusting a tie in a collar, a clip comprising a resilient strip bent back upon itself to embrace the tie, and a band held over the free ends of said strip by the frictional contact therewith, substantially as shown and described.
2. As a means for lengthwise adjusting a tie in the fold of a collar a folded clip of resilient material having free ends, a band slidable over the free ends, and a handle having a socket to fit over the closed ends of the clip projecting below the band.
