969,524. Specification of Letters Patent. v
Application filed January 27, 1910.
Patented sept. 6, 1910. Serial No. 540,452.
1b all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN J. CoNDoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Port Chester, county of l/Vestchester, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scabbards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates more particularly to a supporting device for batons which are adapted to be supported by a belt.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a. supporting device for batons which will securely hold the same against member 15 it is onl necessary to use one hand to Support the belt as the bat-on is withdrawn from the scabbard.
It will be seen that a device of this sort will not only be eflicient in practice and neat in appearance but the same can be manufactured at a very small cost.
While the device is illustrated as being formed of leather the entire structure ma be formed of sheet metal, and instead of forming the cylindrical support for the baton from one piece of spring metal the same may be constructed from leather reinforced by a plurality of open resilient rings.
lie support ma f be also constructed of any resilient material would answer to removably hold the baton. If it is desired to permanently attach the scabbard to the belt the loops 13 and 14 may be riveted to the same to prevent lateral movement of the device on the belt.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
to permit of the ready removal of the baton from the scabbard.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the device that the baton may be withdrawn from the sameV by a side movement.
. With these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described 'with reference to the accompanying' drawings, which form a part of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claim at the end of the description.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device attached to a belt. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line II-II of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is an end view of the device detached. Y
The device is adapted to be supported upon a belt 10. e same consists of a rectangular leather member 11 adapted the rear wall or supporting member. member is faced with a member 12 of patent leather to give the same a neat appearance. Both the member' 11 and its facing 12 are provided with a plurality of slits which al` low the portions 13 and 14 to be pressed outwardly to form loops through which the belt 10 is adapted to pass. The means for supporting the baton consists of a cylindrical l member 15 formed of spring metal. device is opened for its entire length and the edge portions 16 formed by the opening are offset to provide means for forcing the spring member open as the baton is inserted.
between said slots vide an attaching means, and a cylindrical resilient member forming means, said resilient member being provided with an opening the edges thereof adjacent said opening being offset and curving outwardly away from each other.
This specification signed and witnessed this 25th day of January A. D. 1910.
BENJAMIN J. CONDON.
provided with a patent leather cover 18 t0 Witnesses: give the same a neat appearance and to pre- M. A. TOWNER, Jr., vent the spring member from marring or L. I. MAYER. a I' disguring the baton.
