BOX OR RECEPTACLE.

To all whom it' may concer/n.:

Be it known that I, RAYMOND O. Prier- FnRLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madelia, in the county of VVatonwan and State of Minnesota, have invented `certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes or Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to boxes or receptacles, and is an improvement on my Patent No. 1,395,594, g'ranted November 1, 1921, and one of the prime objects of the present invention is to provide an improved means for holding the label on a box or receptacle of the type usually employed for salves and ointments.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an auxiliary cover for ointment or salve boxes for engaging a label and for detachablyy holding the same in position against accidental displacement, and to prevent the necessity of gluing or otherwise securing the same in place.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved label holder for tin boxes and the like embodying a removable auxiliary cover arranged to snap over the label and thus effectively hold the same in position against accidental displacement and loss and against mutilation.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for holding the auxiliary cover on the main cover so that the auxiliary cover can be quickly and easily removed from the main cover for permitting the label to be easily and readily placed in position.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciication, in which drawings:

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter A indicates the box, which includes the body B, the main cover C, the auxiliary cover; D, and the label E.

The body portion of the box A may be of the usual configuration and made in the ordinary or any preferred manner and as shown includes the cylindrical side wall 10 and the circular bottom wall 11. The side wall 10 is provided as in the usual construction with the annular rib 13 which forms a seat for the lower edge of the main cover (l which will now be described.

The main cover C includes a cylindrical side wall 12 and a top circular wall 14. The circular side wall 12 is made of such a diameter as to snugly fit over the side wall 10 of the body portion B of the box. The side wall 12 of the main cover C is provided intermediate its upper and lower edges at equidistantly spaced points withy radially extending lugs 15, which serve as means for holding the auxiliary cover D in position which will now be described.

The auxiliary cover D includes the cylinn drical side wall 16 and the top circular wall 17 which is provided with an enlarged cut out portion 18 which forms the sight opening for the label. The opening 18 is of such a size that the topwall 17 may be considered as merely an annularly extending flange formed on the upper edge of the side wall 16. The lower edge of the side wall 16 of the auxiliary cover D is also adapted to rest upon the upper surface of the ribI 12 and the rib is of such a thickness as to accommodate both of the side walls. The side wall 16 is formed relatively higher than the side wall 12 so that the top wall 17 of the auxiliary cover D will be spaced from the top wall 14 of the main cover C. The space intermediate these covers is adapted to receive the label E. To prevent the accidental displacement of the auxiliary cover D from off of the main cover C an annular rib 20 is struck out from the cylindrical side wall 16 intermediate its ends providing a continuous annular recess at its interior, and this annular recess is adapted to receive the equidistantly spaced radially extending lugs 15 which are struck out from the main cover C. It can be seen that the auxiliary cover is merely pushed over the upper end of the main cover and snapped in position over the rib 16.

As clearlyshown in YFigure 5 of the drawings, the label E is of the usual form and is tightly held between the top wall 17 or the auxiliary cover D and the top wall 14 or' the main cover C.

In placing the label in position, the auX- iliary cover D is removed and the label is placed on the upper surface of the main cover C. After the label is placed in position, the auxiliary cover D is placed in position over the main cover C` `as heretofore described. The label is firmly held in position against displacement and mutilation and can be readily seen through the sight opening 18.

H so desired a transparent guard plate 21 may be provided for the label E as clearly shown in Figure 6 of the drawings, and when the transparent plate 21 is used, the same is placed on top of the label and held in position bythe auxiliary cover.

From the foregoing description, it can be seen that an improved means has been provided for holding a label in position on a box, which is so constructed thatthe label can be readily and easily placed in or removed from position.

Changes in details may be lmade without departing from the spirit or scope oi this invention; but,

l claim:

1.111 a. box, the combination with` a body having an annular seat formed thereon, of a cover for the body including a main portion and a supplemental portion, the main portion includinga flat top wall and a depending annular side wall, the supplemental portion including a flat top wall having an enlarged sight opening formed therein and a depending annular side wall, the depending side wall of the supplemental portion being of greater height than the side wall of the main portion and having a contiunous annular recess at its interior, the side wall of the main port-ion having radially extending spaced apart lugs vformed thereon arranged to spring in said annular recess when the supplemental portion is sprung on the main portion, the lower edges of the side walls of the main portion and the supplemental portion lterminating in the same plane for resting upon the annular seat formed on the body portion of the box.`

2. In a box, the combination with a body, of a cover for the body including a main portion and a supplemental portion, the main portion including a flat top wall and a depending ani'iular side wall, the supplemental portion including a flat top wall having an enlarged sight opening formed therein and a depending annular side wall, the depending side wall having a continuous annular recess at its interior, the side wall of the main portion having radially extending spaced apart lugs formed thereon arranged to swing in said annular recess when the supplemental portion is sprung on the main portion.
