BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
Specification of Iietters Patent.
Patented Sept. 6, into.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that, I, GEORGE DONALiJ- soN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Boston,'in the county of Suflolk and State of Massachusetts, have inventednew and useful Improvements in- Bottl-Clos'ures, of which the following is a specification.
vent evaporation orhardening of the contents of a bottleis desirable. i
The object of the present invention is-to provide a-cap or closure especially designed for use upon mucilage or paste bottles, but which may be applied to other bottles requiring a tight seal, the construction oil the cap being such as to permit a brush to be readily applied and removed without disconnecting the cap from the bottle or jar,
.. and Which Will securely'clainp the brush in operative position.
is a top plan view of my improvedfcap or closure, showing the valve or cover plate in open position. Fig. 2 is a similar vietv showthe valve or cover plate iii closed position. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section "through the cap, as shown in Fig.' Fi 4 is a vieW of the brush. Fig. is'a'view showing the application of the brush to the cap. y
Referringto the drawing, 1 designates a screw cap provided in its top on one side of its center with a segmental opening 2. Arranged for rotation upon .the cap is a valve or cover plate 2-5. The body of said valve or cover-plate rests upon the top of the'cap and is provided with a downturned for rotary moveinent-upini a pivot pin or stud (3 carried by the cap, and itsiiange 4- forms a finger grip by which it may be In the accompanylng dravving,-l igu11e l turned to throw the opening 5 into and out of register with the opening 2. The flange 4- also serves to prevent the cover from shifting in any direction across the cap and straining the pivot 6.
In the use of the cap upon mucilage, paste and liquid blaolring bottles in which a brush is employed to dispense the contents thereof, the recesses 2 and 5 are provided in order that the handle of the brush may be received and clamped securely in position. In Figs. 4 and 5 l have shown a brush 7, on the handle of which is arranged a sealing sleeve 8 of rubber or other suitable material, the same being provided with a head or crown flange 9. In the application of this brush With the cap the cover or valve plate 8 is turned to bring the openings 2 and 5 into register, after- Which the brush is inserted downwardly thercthrough in position for use, as shown in Fig. 5, the brush'handle being arranged to seat the sleeye- 8 in one of the recesses 2- of the cover plate, after which thelatter is turned to bring the cover plate to close/the opening 2 and to seat the .sle'eve into the adyacent recess 2 of the cover. "The cooperating recesses 2 and 5 will thus form an opening for the passage of the brush handle and the. sleeve 8 audits head 9 will form a close union therewith, thus sealing the opening and 'n'cventing evaporation of the liquid contents of the bottle as Well as'the access of moisture thereto. The brush will thus be clamped to the cap so that it may be used in the ordinary main'icr for the application of paste or polish by removing the cap, or used independently by turning the cover plate so as to release the brush in order that itinay be withdrawn for which it is to be applied.
It will be observed that the construction described adapts the brush to be held within the coacting recesses in the cover and cap.
will. be found useful upon bottles and jars spreading the material. on to the surface to ill!) ration of the contents of the botille. eonstructwn described 1t need not be neeessary at any tune to detach the cap 1n the of various kinds, may be manufactured at a comparatrvelylow cost, and terms a e0n- 'venient means by which a brush may be held in position for flee witheut cianger of evapo- By the use of the brush, as by opening and clesihg the cover plate the cap may be removed for useend then applied, end, when app1ied, will be held firmly in position and the opening th'i'ough whlch 'it passes hermetically sealed.
Haw mg thus descnbed the mven tmn, what r is claimed as new, iF-
" flange of the Jae eeeeee its crown portion at one Side 01? its center, file I straightlongitudinal edge of the opening be ing provided at each of its ends "with a segmental recess, a' cover cempi'isilig $1 had y plate acting recesses and formed with apendent. flange embracing the plain pertien of the 7 cap, made pivotv pinipeseing 4 through the crown, and cap of the 'cere'erk'm fi a line between the sets of meeeseseiad ax ally 3C connecting said cap for weary meefementdxk n the cover, whereby, a brush may be ,iflwed within the meeting recesses at either side? the cap.
In testlmony whereof, I efix my signature 35- in presence of two witnesses.
