Letters Patent No. 96,934, dated November 16, 1869.
' IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE.
The Schedule referred tojin these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To allee-hom. it may concern Beit known that '1,' vCLOVIS LOWE, of Randolph, inthe county of Coos, and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Felices; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a. full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had' to the annexed drawings, making part of this ,specicat-ion, in which the fence is shown in a side elevation.
My improvement consists in attaching a post-foot made of concrete, to a wooden post, by means of a dowel-pin, for the purpose of permanently supporting a fence upon a post-foot not subject to decay, and which lnay be constructed in a country where stone cannot be obtained.
In the annexed drawings- A represents `a ibotpost, formed. by pouring concrete into a hole inthe ground, and fixing therein an iron dowel-pin, placed perpendicular-ly, and allowing the concrete to remain untiiit becomes hard.
When this is done, the posts C, to which are attached the panels E, may be set, by inserting the dowel-pin B into a hole, D, formed'in the bottom 4of the post.
By this means, I provide a post-foot that is not liable to decay, and, keeping the wooden post away from Contact with the earth, preserves it from decay.
The concrete post-foot maybe removed in case the line of fence requires to be changed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combinationof the post-foot A, the dowel-pin B, post G, eonstrheted with a hole, D, in 'the base. and panel E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
