Description

waited iutr SOLOMON OE DEEEEIEDD',` INDIANA.
Letters .Patent No. 96,312, dated November-9,1869.
IMPROVED MILLSTONE-DRIVER.
I Th- Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ol the lame.
I, SOLOMON DAnKEss, of Deerfield, in the county of Randolph, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and improved J ointed Millstone-.Driver, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists of a millstone-driver, (as it is termed,) constructed in three parts, so pivoted together as to permit the central portionv to freely ad just itself to the position of the stone independent of theposition of the ends.
In thev accompanying drawings- Figure I is a vertical section longitudinally through theldriver. y s
Figure II is a horizontal section, showinga plan of the driver, and manner 'of vwedging the ysaine to the Like letters of reference designate like parts in each of the figures.
A is the upper, and B the lower millstone; C is the millspindle; i
D, the bail orrynd, secured tothe eye of the upper -s'tone in the usual manner; and
E, my improved driver, transversely divided into i three parts, e e e.
independent of the ends e ef The central portionlhas a hole to receive the mill-spindle, to which it is keyed in the ordinary way.
The end-pieces e e are recessed to receive 'the bail,
which is fastened therein by wedges. Sucient space l is left between the bail'and base of the recess to permit of the reqnined adjustment, in a. direction at right angles to the adjustment allowed by the pivot.
When the driver is made rigid in one piece, it has been found extremely diliicult to secure it an accurate position to the bail. l
By means of my improved construction .this difi'iy' e', pivoted together, and operatingrwith thebail D, in I the manner and for thepurpose set forth.
, SOLOMON DARKESS.
