ATTACHMENT FOR WASHING-MACHINES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD J. Mo- CAULEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vallejo, in the county of Solano and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for WaslaingMachines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to clothes holding attachments for washing machines.

The object of the invention is to provide a portable perforated receptacle adapted to be detachably secured in a washing machine to receive special garments or fine fabrics, whereby the same will be thoroughly washed separately from the other clothes in the machine and will be thereby protected from injury.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of a washing machine, showing the application of the invention thereto; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the receptacle re moved from the machine.

In the embodiment of the invention, I provide a receptacle 1 which may be formed of any suitable material and of various shapes, the same being preferably formed of brass or other similar metal. The receptacle is here shown and is preferably of semicylindrical shape, and has its rounded outer side 2 provided with a series of perforations 3 through which the water is drawn to wash the fabrics placed therein. The receptacle is closed at its inner end by a bottom 4 and has its upper end open, as shown. The receptacle is arranged transversely in the washing machine with the flat side thereof placed against one of the heads or against the partition of the machine. The lower end of the receptacle when thus arranged is secured in place by a semi-circular cleat 5, suitably arranged in the machine and at its other end, the receptacle is held by a cleat 6 arranged Specification of Letters Patent.

on the inner side of the door 7 in the side of the washing machine cylinder, as shown. By thus arranging and fastening the receptacle, the latter will be securely held in position when the machine is closed and in operation, and when the door 7 is opened the receptacle may be readily removed from the machine. A receptacle of this character is designed to take the place of the nets or bags usually employed for holding and washing special garments or fabrics to protect the same from being injured. The ad vantages of my receptacle for this purpose over the usual form of such receptacles are the practical indestructibility of the same and the greater protection and the more thorough cleansing given to the contents thereof.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A washing machine comprising a revolubly mounted garment receptacle, an auxiliary garment receptacle removably mounted in said revoluble receptacle in fixed relation thereto, said auxiliary receptacle comprising a perforated body portion and having one end closed, a cleat arranged in said revoluble receptacle to hold the closed end of said auxiliary receptacle in position, and a cleat arranged on the door of the revoluble receptacle and adapted to engage the outer portion of the auxiliary receptacle to hold it in operative position when the door is closed,

said door being also arranged to close the outer end of sald auxillary receptacle.

2.
