Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September 16,1908. Serial No. 453,299.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY L. BENNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Mauch Chunk, in the county of Carbon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supporting Belts or Trusses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a new and useful con struction of truss which can be used for either single or double ruptures the object being to provide a novel form of pad and also a novel construction of supporting belt by means of which the pads will always be held in their proper positions.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination or arrangement, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forminga part of this specification: Figure 1 is a view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective viewo'f one of the pads. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of said pad and Fig. 4: is a detail perspective view showing the sections of the pad separated.
In constructing my device I employ a belt A of leather and suitably lined. To the side portions of the belt are connected front straps B and back straps D. Pads G carry 1 buttons 0 and C The free ends of the straps B are provided with loops B which engage the buttons C. The straps D have loops D and said straps are passed through the crotch, from the rear, and the loops are secured to the buttons, or ins, C thus holding the pads in place. *ach pad consists of two sections, C and C the first mentioned section carrying a pivot pin E upon which the section C is mounted. The buttons C and C are mounted on a plate G carried by the section C, which plate receives the projecting end of the pin E, and a curved guard plate F extends over the central portion of the plate C between the buttons, and covers the projecting end of the pin.
By having the pads made intwo sections pivoted together and arranged as described it is obvious that the said pads will accommodate themselves to all movements of the body and without becoming displaced.
It will thus be seen that I provide a simple and efficient form of truss capable of carrying out all of the objects heretofore mentioned.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device of the kind described comprising a belt, front and back straps connected to side portions of the belt, pads each consisting of two sections, pivot pins carried by one section of each pad and passing through the other section, plates carried by the pivoted sections, buttons carried by the plates, a plate carried by the pivoted sections, said plate being curved and covering the ends of the pivot pins, one of the plates last mentioned being provided for each pad, and loops carried by the straps adapted to engage the buttons.
