IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 96,614, dated November 9, 1869.

Be 1t known that I, WILLIAM R. POOL, of
,Havana, in the county of Hale and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved method of fastening plows detachably to the stocks for the purpose of changing them for plows or shares of different shapes and kinds for different kinds of work.
Figure l represents an elevation, partly sectional, of my improved plow; and Fig. 2 represents a detached view of a plow or moldboard.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The stock A of the plow is made broad and strong at theulower end, and the mold-boards B are either provided with plates C for fitting against the front of these beams for clamping thereto, or they are notched down from the top parallel with the edge, as shown at D, for the admission of the clamping-yokes E, which encircle the stock, the plates C or projections formed by the said notches D, and the clamping-plates E behind the stock, the latter having clamping-screws G screwing through the said plates into sockets in metallic plates let into the stocks iius'h with the surface for the protection of the wood against the screws; also, for preventing the screws from slipping` up or down. The front ofthe beam is also provided with a notched plate, as shown at I-I, into which studs I on the plow-plates take to prevent them from slipping up or down. The said notched and socketed plates permit the plows to be adjusted higher or lower on the stock.
The yoke E is drawn down tightly for clamping the mold-board to the stock by the setscrew G, screwing the plate F out against the yoke. l
Having t-hus described my invention, I claiIn as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, withthe mold-boards B, either provided with plates C or projec tions formed by notches D, and the stocks A, of the yoke E, clamping-plate F, and setscrews, when arranged substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the saine, when the stock A is provided with the socketed plate for the set-screws, and the notched plate H, and the mold-boards are provided with projections I, substantially as specified.
