To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, E. D. My invention consists of un improvement in the methods iormerly employed for closing.;r doors or gutes, by menus oil springs; and Its object is to obtnin n more servieenblo und reliuhle spring thun the ones hithertoin use for thnt. purpose, so thntthc spring (-:m be easily detached, or :ldjusted, or reversed, so that it will hold the. door, either open or shut, according to the way in which the spring is placed.

To enable others skilled in the :u't to make und use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction und operation.

The operuiion is' as follows:

\Vhen the door or gute. is opened, thc spring.;r I) is drown out h r the eonneeting-link E, und. when nllowed to elose, is drown to hy tho notion otthe double. or single spiral spring, eonueeted with the spring.r F by connecting-link E. The combination of thc spring 1), :md spring l`,:u1d connecting-link E keeps t-hc door or gute tightly closed, by reason ot' the outward tendeney of the spring;r marked F. Remove the spring,
