Letters Patent No. 96,451, dated lilo/umher 2, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPS FOR BUTTER-FIRKINS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.:
-Be it `known that I, D. M. LooKRIoen, of Otto, in the county oi' Cattaraugus, and State ol New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fir kins and Tubs for Butter and other substances; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description thereof, which will enable thosel My invention consists in providing one or more v hoh-s through the iirkin or tub, lneferably at the head, for the insertion ol' the ihspeetorstrier, and in hermetically closing them diy a button or clamp, provided with India rubber, or other suitable packing-substanee, clamped down upon the said opening by a screw, which may he started ont a few turns when access is desired,
so that the clamp may be turned away from over the holes.

For inspection, these clamps may be readily removed by starting the screws and turning the clamps thereon; and they are as readilymade tight again after inspection, without any damage to the tub or.
