Description

SAMUEL B. FAY, or' NEW Y'onKfN. Y.A
Letters Patent No. 96,410, dated November 2, 181:19.v
IMPRQ'VEMENT 1N TAGS.
Theehedule referred to in these Letters Patent making pl-rt 0f the um@ To all whom it may concern:
t ble material, to be substituted for the ordinary metal eyeletin the manufacture of tags, 8vo.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertans', to mike and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a tag. with my improved plates` attached, and y Figure 2, is a view of the plate. A represents an ordinary tug, made in any of the -known and usual ways, but without the usual eyelet.
B is a plate, 'made oi' metal or other suitable hard material, of something like the shape shown in g. 2,
-having one hole at one end, and two holes at the other.
Inthe tag A are made holes to correspond with the holes in the plate B.
, The cord C is inserted in the manner 'shown in fig. 1, that is, the two ends of the cord are passed one through each of the holes in one end ot' the pla-te and through the corresponding holes in the tag; both ends are then brought back through the'tag and through the single hole inthe other end of the plate.
By this improvement, the cost oi' making is greatly -v decreased, and the labor of inserting entirely obviat'ed, as, in its use, in the manuiwtnreot' tags and direction-labels it is applied, at the same .time it is very strong.
, The small metal tie used on the string is also dispensed with, the sam result being obtained f1 passing the cords through the upper hole of the plate.
Having thus fully described-my invention,
' What 4I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, s Y y The pert'oiated plate B, made of metal orother suitable material, as a substitute for the ordinary metaleyelet in the 'manufacture of tags, 86o., substantially as herein set forth.
