UNITED SATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARINUS NIELSEN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
FIRE-GBACKEB HOLDER.
Application filed January 29, 1909, Serial No. 474,916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARINUS NIELSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fire-Cracker Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fire cracker holders, one of the objects of the invention being to provide a device of this character with a barrel which acts as a megaphone to concentrate and direct the sound of the exploded fire cracker in one direction and hence increase the noise of the explosion in that direction, a further object being to provide a device of this character by means of which children and others may explode fire crackers with absolute safety to themselves and without risk of burning or setting fire to their clothing and with these and other objects in View, my invention consists of the construction, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fire cracker holder constructed in accordance with my invention showing the same in use by a child. Fig. 2 is partly an elevation and partly a longitudinal sectional view. of the same.
In the embodiment of my invention here shown, the handle 1 of the fire cracker holder is in the form of the stock of a pistol. The handle may, however, be of any other suitable form and I do not limit myself in this particular although I regard the pistol form as preferable. The barrel 2 of the holder constitutes in effect a megaphone and is conical in form, with a conical bore, the larger end of which is outermost and at the inner end or apex of the conical bore is a socket 3 of suitable depth and which is cylindrical in form and of a diameter corresponding to that of the fire crackers to be fired therein.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1910.
Renewed March 19, 1910. Serial No. 550,514.
It will be observed upon reference to Fig. 2 that the converging side walls of the bore lead to the socket so that a fire cracker placed butt first in the bore will be guided directly into the socket and held in the socket thus enabling the fire cracker to be exploded within the conical bore of the barre'l with absolute safety to the person using the device. Owing to the form of the barrel, the same acts as a megaphone to aug ment the sound of the exploded cracker as will be understood.
In order to additionally secure the fire cracker in the barrel, I provide a tapered pin 4 which is centrally disposed in the socket with its base secured to the inner end of the socket. When the fire cracker is inserted in the holder, the pin enters the inner end of the fire cracker and tends to expand it diametrically while the inner end of the fire cracker is being forced into the socket with the result that the walls of the socket and the pin coact to firmly hold the fire cracker in the barrel.
WVhat is claimed is 1. A fire cracker holder having a megaphone barrel provided at the inner end of its bore with a cracker holding socket, and a holding pin in said socket to enter the cracker and co-act with the socket in securing the cracker.
2. A fire cracker holder having a megaphone barrel provided at the inner end of its bore with a cylindrical cracker holding socket, and a tapered pin in said socket to enter the cracker and co-act with said socket in securing the cracker.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of witnesses.
MARINUS NIELSEN.
