Description

UNIT STATES ATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS RUMAGE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
" FlRE-CRACKER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,802, dated September 1, 1896.
Application filed June 1, 1896. Serial No. 593,769. (No model.)
To all whom it may conaem:
Be it known that I, LOUIS RUMAGE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Ouyahoga, State of Ohio,
have. invented certain .new and useful Im-' provem cuts in Fire-Cracker Holders, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in fire-cracker holders and detonators; and the objects of the invention are to produce a toy gun and projectile and to provide thereby.
means for holding the fire-cracker securely to prevent accidents to face or hands, and also to obtain the maximum amount of noise from the cracker.
My invention consists in the hollow tube "and pointed standard with the cap-ball and details of construction, as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical contral section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a view of the device when discharging the ball.
In the .views, A is a short tube supported upon the pointed stem B and tapered to a narrow point at the lowerextremity U, where it is perforated at D to permit the passage of the fire-cracker fuse E from the fire-cracker F, which is inclosed Within the tube A before firing.
Gis a light ball of wood or rubber, into the opening H, in which the upper extremity of thet'tube A is inserted.
The appearance of the device when ready for firing is seen clearly in Fig. 2. I
In use the pointed extremity of the stem is planted vertically in the sod and the fire-, cracker is placed in the tube with the fuse extendin g through the lower opening. The capball is then placed over the tube and the fuse lighted. The explosion will then send the ball to a great height and produce a loud noise.
The device is harmless as a toy and exceedingly simple and eifective in its action.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination in a fire-cracker holder, with a tube adapted to inclose the cracker, and provided wit a reduced opening in the of a pointed standard secured to said cylinder, anda ball -projectil'e adapted to be sleeved. over the upper end of the cylinder, substantially as described.
2. In a lire-cracker holder, the combination with a tube adapted to hold the cracker and provided with one open extremity, and one lower extremityf r the extension of the fuse,
narrowed but perforated to admit the exten- I sion of the fuse, of a projectile-cap adapted to (it loosely over the tube, and means for se curingthc tube while the explosion takes place, substantially as set forth.
LOUIS RUM/\GE.
