UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. GREEN, OF GHILLICOTHE, OHIO.
COLLAPSIBLE TUB.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chillicothe, in the county of Ross and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Tubs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in collapsible tubs, and the object is to provide means for retaining the tub in position while in use and after the tub has been used to permit of its being raised forming a baglike receptacle for carrying the water.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a perspective view showing the tub assembled and ready for use; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the tub with the end pieces removed and the position taken by the tub when carried; Fig. 8 shows the tub rolled into a small compass; Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view showing the manner of cognecting one of the ends to the side of the tu A represents the tub, and l is the oilcloth or canvas body. The side members or strips 2 are connected to the canvas body in any suitable manner, and the ends of the strips or members project beyond the sides of the tub. Notches 3 are formed in the ends of the side strips and received in the notches is a clip or bracket 4:, which is connected to the sides by means of screws. End. strips or members 5 are received in a clip or bracket on both sides of the tub for holding the tub body perfectly flat, and the sides and ends of the tub extend along the side and end members, whereby the water is retained within the tub body. A cord 6 is provided at each end of the tub and the ends of the cords are connected to the side members or strips 2. Eyelets 7 ,7 are formed along the ends of the tub, through which the cords pass and by grasping each cord at the center the ends of the tub can be brought toward one another, whereby the tub takes the form of a bag for holding water. The ends of the tub, however, cannot be drawn toward each other until the end strips 5 are removed or disconnected Specification of Letters Patent.

from the side strips 2. After the water has been emptied from the tub the tub can be rolled up into a small compass as indicated in Fig. 3.
The members 2 form supports for the sides of the tub whereby they are held in an upright position, and the end members 5 cause the ends to be held in an upright position, but when the end members are removed or disconnected from the side mem bers the ends of the tub can be drawn toward each other by the strings or cords 6.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple means for retaining the flexible tub body in position for forming a receptacle for water and which body can be raised and the body caused to take the shape of a bag for forming a re ceptacle for carrying water.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departure from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construc tion herein set forth, but:
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A collapsible tub comprising a flexible waterproof body, side strips connected to the sides of the tub, clips on the ends of the side strips, means for connecting the clips to the strips, and end strips engaged by the clips for connecting the side strips and end strips together whereby the sides and ends of the tub will be held in shape.
2. A collapsible tub comprising a flexible body, side strips connected to the side walls of the tub, notches formed at the ends of the strips, brackets received in the notches and connected to the strips, and end strips received in the brackets for connecting the side strips and end strips together, said strips engaging the outer walls of the tub for holding them in position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN D. GREEN.
