COLLAPSIBLE HAND BAG OR SACK.

` SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,928, dated May 28, 1889.

Application filed December 12, 1888. Serial No. 293,365. (No model.)

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK EMERIC, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved COI- lapsible Hand Bag or Sack; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

Hy invention relates to a collapsible hand bag or sack the mouth of which can be closed by a draw-strin g when filled, and which is provided with handles, by which it can be carried.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents the bag with the mouth open to its full extent, with the handles on opposite sides and the draw-cord running through the rings, by means of which it is closed. Fig. 2 shows the mouth of the bag nearly closed and the bag empty and in a condition to be collapsed, with the draw-cords drawn out on each side and untied.

Let A represent a sack or bagwhich can be netted or knitted of any soft flexible material. I prefer to net or knit the bag` with ordinarysized meshes, so that it will be elastic as Well as collapsible. The upper end or mouth of the bag or sack I make large, and I secure rings b b at intervals apart on the edge of its mouth. If the bag or sack is netted or knitted, I secure these rings in the upper row of stitches. A draw-cord, c, then runs through the rings and is provided on opposite sides of the bag or sack with balls or buttons d. Handles E E are also secured to the edge of the mouth on opposite sides of the bag or sack by means of clasps which embrace two of the rings on each side, as shown, so that when the bag or sack is closed it can be carried by the handles. By being knitted or made of soft flexible material the bag or sack is very convenient, because it can be filled and carried readily by the handles, and when empty can be collapsed and folded into a small space, so that it can be carried in the pocket.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secu re by Letters Patent,

A bag or sack provided at its open end with rings, a draw-string passing through the said rings, and with handles E, eachV connected with two of the said rings, substantially as set forth.
