Description

D. MARINSKY. REINFORGING-AND SUPPORTING DEVICE FOR FLEXIBLE GOLLARS.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 15. 1910.
Patented June 28, 1910.
WITNESSES:
DAVIS MARINSKY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.,
.ASSIGNOR TO WILHELMINA. LOWRIE, OF
NEW YORK, N. Y.
REINFORCING AND SUPPORTING DEVICE FOR FLEXIBLE COLLARS.
Application filed January 15, 1910.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1910.
Serial No. 538,223.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVIS MARINSKY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reinforcing and Supporting Devices for F lexible Collars, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to collars made of soft or flexible material such as are usually worn by ladies, and the object thereof is to provide a reinforcing or supporting device for a collar of this class which will hold said collar in proper upright position and prevent it from sagging down around the neck; a further object being to provide a reinforcing and supporting device of the class specified which may also be used for reinforcing, supporting and holding in proper position other articles of apparel; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an inside view of a ladys collar provided with my improved reinforcing and supporting device; Fig. 2 a partial section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a view of the reinforcing and supporting device detached and showing a method of its construction; Fig. 4 a transverse section on the line 4 4: of Fig. 8, and Fig. 5 a side view showing a modified form of construction of the reinforcing and supporting device shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4.
In the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown at a a ladys collar of the class specified, and said collar as shown is provided with three of my improved reinforcing devices b. The reinforcing device 5 consists of a strip of fabric 6 of predetermined length and preferably composed of tape and said strip is provided at one end or adjacent thereto with a transverse band or keeper 5 and at the opposite end with a pocket I), the opening into which is shown at 6 In the form of construction shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 the pocket I), at one end of the strip 6 is formed by folding said end of the strip backwardly at b and stitching the folded portion 5 to the strip as clearly shown at b and then forming at b a transverse hole, similar to an ordinary button-hole, said hole being formed in the body of the strip 6. I also employ a flexible and elastic strip 0 of rubber, celluloid or any other suitable flexible material and this strip 0 is provided at one endwith a head 0 and in practice the strip 0 is passed through the keeper 6 in the direction of the arrow 00 in Fig. 3 and the flexible strip 0 is then folded over the fabric strip 6 at 0 and the end 0 of the flexible stri 0 is inserted into the pocket 6 through t e hole or opening 6 The length of the flexible and elastic strip 0 is approximately the same as the length of the fabric strip 6 minus the pocket 6 at one end of said fabric strip, or the total length of said flexible and elastic strip 0 is approximately the same as the distance between the head 0 of said strip 0 and the opposite end of the fabric strip 12 at b when said parts are in the position shown in Fig. 3, and the above described operation oompletes the reinforcing and supporting device for use.
In practice the reinforcing and supporting device I) is secured to the inside of the collar a transversely thereof as shown in Fig. 1 by stitching or otherwise, and whenever necessary or desirable the flexible strip 0 may be detached by withdrawing the end 0 of said strip from the pocket Z) of the fabric strip 6 and folding down said fabric strip as shown in Fig. 3, and then withdrawing the flexible strip 0 by taking hold of the head 0 thereof and this operation may be performed whenever it is desired to wash the collar or for any other purpose.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a slight modification in the method of constructing the reinforcing and supporting device Z; or in the method of constructing the pocket 5 thereof and in this form of construction the corresponding end of the fabric strip 6 is folded forwardly and the edges thereof stitched to the body portion of said strip 6 and with this exception the construction shown in Fig. 5 is the same as that shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and the operation will be the same. It will be understood that this device may be applied to articles of apparel of various kinds and classes as Well as to collars and the dimensions thereof may be regulated according to the use for Which it is desired. M
Having fully described my invention What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
A reinforcing and supporting device of the class described, comprising a flexible strip provided at one end and on one side thereof with: a transverse keeper, and at the opposite end andon the same side with a; pocket, and a flexible and elastic strip adapted to be passed through said keeper and provided at one end with a transverse head Wider than the body thereof and said keeper and the opposite end of Which is adapted to be inserted into said pocket.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 14th day of January 1910.
DAVIS MARINSKY.
