I mum/roe J/ Es M. n47; 7'Z-VZS/ WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS (LUTNOGRAPHERS, WASHINGTON,
JAMES M. WALTERS, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
DISPLAY-STAND.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. WALTERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in display stands designed especially for use in draping, and displaying dress goods, silks, merchant tailors suitings and fancy goods such as lace, trimmings, jewelry etc., in fact for displaying almost all goods sold in dry goods and department stores.
The invention seeks to provide a novel construction of display head rounded on one side and fiat on its other side and having sockets for a stand rod formed from both sides and arranged at different angles to each other so that the display head may be adjusted with its fiat or its rounded side upward and held at any desired angle as may best suit the taste of the decorator.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure l is a perspective view showing the invention in dotted lines with merchandise draped thereon. Fig. 2 is a side View, partly in section, of a display device embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view and Fig. 4: a top plan view of the display head. Fig. 5 is a top plan view and Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view of a somewhat different form of head from that illustrated in Figs. 1 to A inclusive and Figs. 7 8 and 9 are top plan views illustrating still different forms of head all of which will be described.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the display head has a body portion A and a cover B secured thereon, the body A fitting within the cover B and being preferably made of wood, while the cover B may be made of any suitable material, preferably papier-mach, for convenience in manufacture, and lightness as will be understood by those skilled in the art.
The cover B is in concavo-conveX form and is oval in shape and the body portion A is arranged within the cover B and extending from side to side thereof and suitably secured in place by gluing or otherwise and this body portion at its upper side is usually spaced from the under side of the cover B Specification of Letters Patent.

and is perforated by a number of holes A which may be formed at different angles as shown, so that when the rod 0 of the stand is applied to any one of the said holes A, the display head will be held at a corresponding angle. The holes A extend through the body A and the underside of the cover B is reinforced by a metallic plate D secured thereon, usually by means of a frame E, as shown, and this plate D forms a bearing for the upper end of the rod 0 when inserted in the openings A of the body A, as best shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. Openings B are also formed through the cover B and the sheet metal plate D and communicate with sockets B formed in the upper side of the body A, the openings B, B being formed at difierent angles, as will be understood from Fig. 1, so that the display head when turned bottom side upward, may be secured at different angles. In this position of the head, it will be noticed that the sheet metal plate D reinforces the connection between the stand rod C and the cover B and operates to prevent any injury thereto in the use of the device.
From the foregoing, it will be noticed that my display head is rounded on its outer side and is smooth and unobstructed at such rounded side from edge to edge and has in its under side a series of sockets formed at different angles to receive the stand rod so the head may be secured at different angles upon the upper end of the stand rod. At the same time the special construction shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 before described, permits the reversal of the display head side for side and provides for a simple, economical and light construction of head which may be efiicient in its different adjustments.
.The oval form of head will be found useful by decorators in securing the different styles of draping and the head when once adjusted upon the stand rod will rest firmly in position and will not slip from the position to which it has been adjusted.
Instead of making the display head in the oval form as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4:, it may be made in the square form shown in Fig. 7 or the diamond shaped form shown in Fig. 8 or round as shown in Fig. 9 and I may in practice make the head in the oval form shown in Fig. 5 with the edge flange F and I may also use the rim hooks B in the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 6 disposed around the rim of the display head and-similar hooks may, if desired, be disposed around the rim of the display head shoWn in Fig. 2. These hooks will be found useful in displaying small jewelry, rings, chains, novelties, etc.
While the cover B may preferably be madeof papier-mach, it maybe made of other frangible material such as Wood or may be made of metal or other suitable material.
My invention is especially designed as before suggested for use as a display form for dress goods in store Windows and cases and the special form and construction before described Will be found highly useful in such connection.
I claim:
'1. In a display apparatus; a display head having a body portion and a cover, the cover being in concavo-convexform and the body portion being arranged therein and extending in bridge form from side to side thereof, a reinforcing plate on the underside of the cover and betWeenthe same and the body portion, openings being formed through the underside of the body portion and leading to said reinforcing plate and arranged at different angles and openings the body portion and the cover, substan-" .tially as set forth.
3. A display stand comprising a cover in concavo-convex form, a body portion arranged in said cover and extending in bridge form from sideto side thereof and spaced at its upper side from the cover, the said body portion being provided in its underside with sockets and also having sockets in its. upper side and openings being formed through the cover in alinement With the sockets in the upper side of the body portion, substantially as set forth.
