THOMAS Gr. TEDESCO, OF OLYPI-IANT, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLUG DEVICE.
To all whom it may concer/n:
Be it known that I, THOMAS Gr. TEDESCO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olyphant, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plug Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to plug devices, and has for its object, the production of novel means for connecting a rope or cable to the ends of a pipe for measuring the eXact length of a pipe desired to make the necessary connection between two mains or sections to make a complete system.
Another object of this invention is the production of a plug device which is simple in construction, and is efficient in operation.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed.
In the drawings :dFigure 1 is a view, in side elevation, of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a view, in side elevation, of the plug device, which may be secured in the end of a pipe. Fig. 3 is a view, in side elevation, of a plug-turning device. Fig. 4 is an end view of one of the point-members of the plugturning device.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the elbow of a part of the pipe line, but, of course, it will be understood, from the following description, that the peculiar means for attaching the ropes or cords to the pipe is susceptible of being placed in a pipe or tubing that has no elbow, as for instance, at 2, Fig. 1. The means for attaching the cord or rope 3 comprises a plurality of annular externally-threaded plugs 5, 6, and 7. Any number of these plugs may be employed, one screwing into the other, cX- cept in the case of the inner plug 5, for each of the outer plugs, as for instance, 6 and 7 are threaded internally and externally; the outer, annular plug 7 being threaded into the pipe or a sleeve or elbow, as at 8, Fig. 1. The inner plug 5 is solid, and is provided with a hook 9. The cord, cable or rope 3, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, is fastened at one Specification of Letters Patent.

end to one of the hooks 9, and passes over the square, as shown in Fig. 1, and the cable also passes through the eye or hook of the outer plug so as to allow the free movement or adjustment.
Each of the hollow, annular plugs 6 and 7 is, preferably, provided with a pair of sockets or recesses 14 formed in one face, preferably, the outer face for receiving the points 15 of the point-members, each of which point-members is, preferably, provided with a square aperture 16 formed in its body 17. A horizontal square bar 18 of the plug-turning device, as shown in Fig. 3, extends through the apertured body 17, and as the point-members are slidably mounted upon the bar 18, it will be obvious that the plug-turning device can be used for rotating different size plugs. Integral with the central portion of the bar 18, is a vertical stem 19, which stem is provided, at its upper end with a grip or handle 20 and facililtates the rotation of the pipe.
The rope 3 is secured to one hook 9 by means of a loop 10 and a square 22 is adapted to be held in one hand; the rope 3 passing over the head 1l of the square 22, and through the other hook 9 as at il. The free end of the rope 3 may be gripped by one hand, and by adjusting the square upon the rope 3, the length of the pipes 12 shown in dotted lines can be ascertained to complete the two lines of piping; the elbow 18 shown in dotted lines being adapted to connect the pipes 12.
What I claim is:
l. A device of the class described comprising an inner plug and an outer annular plug, said inner plug adapted to be threaded into said outer plug, and said outer plug adapted to be threaded into the end of a pipe, said inner plug provided with a hook adapted to be engaged by a cord.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a plug device, comprising an inner plug screwthreaded upon the outer edge thereof, an intermediate plug provided with a threaded aperture therein and being threaded upon the outer edge thereof, said inner plug threaded into said aperture in said intermediate plug, an outer plug provided with a threaded aperture adapted to receive the intermediate plug, and said outer plug being threaded upon the outer edge thereof and face of the inner plug, and `adapted to be adapted to be threaded into the end of a engaged loy a cord. l0 pipe, said intermediate and. outer plugs pro- In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my vided With a plurality of sockets upon the signature in presence of two Witnesses.
