MAKE-UP CABINET FOR THEATRICAL USE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 7, 1910.
Application filed December 15, 1909. Serial No. 533,270.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW E. SPINNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morgan City, in the parish of St. Mary and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Make- Up Cabinets for Theatrical Use; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a ecification.
This inventlon relates to new and useful improvements in a make up box adapted especially for theatrical use in making up for actors and actresses, and comprises a simple and eiiicient apparatus of this nature embodying various details of construction and comblnations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus with the lid or top open. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the box closed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the lid open and Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the electrical connections and circuit. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View of an electrlcal connection plug.
Reference now being had to details of the drawings by letter, A designates the box or cabinet in which a tray B is supported upon the cleats C, said tray having two compartments closed by the hinged doors E. In the spaces adjacent to the ends of the cabinet are the compartments F which are closed and each has an opening F in its top.
H designates the cover or lid to the cabinet which in the present instance, is shown as hinged to the body portion, and has a mirror H upon its inner face, and two hinged wings K, each of which carries a socket K for the rece tion of an electrical bulb. Said wings, w en the lid is to be folded, are swung into position at right angles to the lid and each wing is adapted to pass through an opening F in the top of the compartment F, said openings being of such shape as to conform to and receive the wing and the socket member. At corresponding ends of the compartment F are pigeon holes 0 for the reception of electric bulbs which, before the cabinet is closed, are adapted to be removed from the sockets. Electric wires designated by letter Q pass through apertures Q, in said wings and connect wlth the terminals of the sockets, said wires also passing through passageways F formed in the lid or cover, and connected with the terminals T positioned in recesses in the inner marginal edge of the lid and which sockets are adapted to be engaged by the journals of the plug J, which in turn is connected by wires to the plug I.
In operation, when it is desired to open up the device for use, the wings may be swung at any desired angle in order to bring the bulbs into proper position to throw light upon the person standing before the mirror. The cover of the cabinet is held at the proper angle by means of the chains L. When the parts are adjusted for use the covers to the trays may be thrown back and access had to the trays.
From the foregoing, it is to be noted that by the provision of an apparatus as shown and described, when it is desired to fold the apparatus it may be conveniently done and the parts occupy a compact space.
What I claim to be new is 2- A make up apparatus for theatrical use, comprising a box having a hinged lid adapted to hold a mirror, hinged wings upon said lid adapted to fold within the box when the lid is closed, bulb sockets carried by said wings, and electrical connections with said socket, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW E. SPINNER.
