COMBINATION SHOE-BLACKING STAND AND BGOTJACK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR BANOROFT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Shoe- Blacking Stands and Bootjacks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in combined shoe blacking stands and boot jacks, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this class which is extremely simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and which will perform the functions for which it is designed with surety and with efficiency.

IVith the above, and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing there has been illustrated a simple and preferred embodiment of the improvement, and in which drawings,

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the same used as a boot jack. Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating the device employed as a blacking stand.

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates the improved dgevice. As clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the improvement is constructed of a single strand of wire of a gage sufficient to support a shoe when being blackened or when being removed from the foot of the wearer. The improved stand comprises a substantially horizontally straight body portion having one of its ends U-shaped as indicated by the numeral 2 and its opposite end substantially V-shaped as designated by the numeral 8. The side members 4L of the stand are bent downwardly adjacent the members 2 and 3, as indicated by the numerals 5, to provide suitable feet for the device. The strands comprising the \l-shaped portion 8 are bent upon themselves as at 6 Specification of Letters Patent.

and have their extremities offset and coiled around the longitudinal members of the frame, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. By this arrangement it will be noted that when the device is to be employed as a boot jack, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, one foot of the wearer is positioned upon the rear portion 2 of the device, while the V-shaped or forward portion of the device is positioned upon the heel of the opposite shoe. It will be noted that upon exertion of upward pressure by the wearer, the second shoe or that engaged by the V-shaped portion 3 may be readily removed from the wearer. By reference to Fig. 3 of the drawings it will be noted that the device efiectively supports the shoe when the latter is to receive a coat of polish.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple and effective device for the purpose intended, and it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction illustrated in the drawings or set forth in the specification, but that minor details of construction, within the scope of the following claim, may be resorted to if desired.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is In a device of the class set forth, a member constructed of a single strand of wire, said member comprising a substantially rectangular frame, the end portions of which being bent inwardly to form a U- shaped member and a V-shaped member, the longitudinal members of the wire being bent downwardly to form feet, the V- shaped portion of the wire being bent upon itself and having its extremities coiled upon the longitudinal members of the frame, substantially as described.
