To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, ROBERT S. ELLISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ganton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lasts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact (lesoription of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view showing last on jack or support, and a shoe on the last. Fig.

- 2 is a side elevation showing last on the jack or support. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the heel portion of the last. Fig. 4 is a perspeetive View of the top of the jack or support, showing the last removed.

The present invention has relation to lasts; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the body of the last proper, and may be substantially of the form shown.

The last A is provided with the extension B, which is substantially of the form shown in the drawings. The sides and ends of this extension B are concaved, thus forming a neck or contracted part in the central portion of the extension. The bottom or under side of the last A extends rearward a short distance beyond the rear end of the extension B,which is for the purpose hereinafter described. The top or upper side of the extension 13 may be straight from the rear end to the frontend,and, as shown, said top or upper side will beslightly inclined toward the toe end of the last when p the last is brought in proper position for work,

placed. The jack or support 0 is also provided with the arm or extension E, which curves outwardly and upwardly, as shown in the drawings. The top or upper portion of the arm E is formed so as to correspond with the form of the last A at the place where it rests.

It will be seen that by first placing the rear end of the last proper into the hood or socket D the last can be easily adjusted to the jack or support. The jack or support is formed nearly as wide as the last, so as to prevent the last from tilting.

It will be understood that the bottom or lower portion of the last proper extends rearward a sufficient distance beyond the rear portion of the extension B to admit the placing of the last in the jack or support without said jack or support interfering with or crowding the inner parts of a boot or shoe, the different parts of the last and support being so arranged and adjusted that when they are placed in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 they together will constitute the rear portion of the last.

It will be seen that my improved last can be used independently of thejack or support, if so desired, and can be easily inserted or removed from a boot or shoe by means of the extension I as said extension is provided with the concaved surfaces, thus forming a convenient handle. It will also be seen that by my peculiar arrangement the last proper can be easily withdrawn, as only a small portion of said last abuts against the rear end of the boot or shoe.

\Vhen it is desired to use the last in the ordinary manner for repairing boots or shoes, it is inserted into the boot or shoe in the ordinary manner, and the space between the top of the last and the top of the boot or shoe filled with instep-leathers, instead of the ordinary slide block or wedge. The standard F is formed integral with the jack or support, and may be of any desired length, and is held in an upright position by means of the socket G, said socket G being attached to any convenient object.

For the purpose of preventing the last A from tilting, the top or upper side of the ex tension 13 is made flat, and rests on the flat surface H, thus securely holding the last by means of the hood or socket D and the arm E.

It will be understood that the different parts of the last and the jack or support are formed of metal.

Having now fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-,

2. The last-support 0, having a rear socket,

D, and a forward supporting-arm, E, and provided with a flat supporting-surface between said parts, substantially as described.

3. In combination with the support 0, having rear socket, D, and arm E, the last A, having an extension, B, substauti ally as described.

4. In combination with the lastA, having the extension B, the support '0, having a. socket, D, and a channeled or concaved arm, E, with an intermediate space, H, upon which the extension B rests, substantially as de-, 20
