BUNDLE-TYING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters gatent.
Patented May 31, 1910.
Application filed October 4, 1909. Serial No. 520,781.
This invention relates to bundle tying de-.
vices and has for its object the production of a bundle tying device which is simple in con truction, ellieient in operation andconsists of a comparatively small number of parts.
Another object of this inventiouis the production of a spring clasp or hook for receiving the free end of a cord adapted to he used in connection with the tying device.. with these and other ()lYJOCiS in view this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the device. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
lteterringto the drawings by numerals (1') designates a package of letters which are bound together when assorted for convenient handling and in order to hold the letters in their bunched position I apply my improved t \'ing device which comprises a hoard ('2) having a post (3) centrally arranged thereon. The post (3) is substantially spool-shaped, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. A link member (4.) is secured to the board (2) by means of the post (3) and said link member is'provided near one end with an eye or aperture (5). The aperture (5) is adapted to receive an end of the cord ((3) which is adapted to pass around the bundle or package of letters for securing the same lirmly together.
hook ((l) is carried by the upper surface of the board (2) and formed preferably from wire having its ends connected or secured to the. hoard (2) by means of a staple A tongue member is also secured to the top of the board (2) intermediate the sides of the hook by means of the staple (7) and said tongue member (8) terminates short of the under folded end 9) of the hook ((3). v
v The board (2) is provided near one side thereof with a notched portion (10) in which is adapted to rest the hooked portion (9) of the hook (6 By having the hooked portion (9) positioned within a notched portion (10) it will be obvious that the end (11) of the string (6) will not. be allowed to become accidentally detached from the hook.
\Yhen it is desired to remove the end (11) ot' the string (6) from the 11001; (6) the free end of the string is drawn to the free end of the hook and thence underneath, back to the other end of said hook when the string will be released.
\Yhen it is desired to tie a bundle of letters together the board (2) is placed upon the top of the bundle and the string or cord ((3) is passed around transversely of the bundle and wound around the post and is then passed around the bundlo lengthwise of the same and brought back to the-'post (3) where it is again twisted-around the post and the free end of the same is fastened under the hook.
It wilil be obvious that when the cord is secured as shown in Fig.1, that the same cannot be detached therefrom, without raising the folded portion 9 out of the notch 10, or in other words above the level of the tongue-portion (3. Otherwise the cord would he directed between the folded portion 9 and the body portion of the hook, and would not be freed from the hook.
What I claim is:
1. device of the class described, comprising a plate, a post centrally arranged thereon, sald post adapted to have one end of a cord secured thereto, said plate provided with a notch formed upon the upper surface thereof, a hook formed from a single piece of wire carried thereby and proto said notch,
2A device of the class described, comprising a plate, means for attaching a cord thereto carried by said. plate, said plate promoral of the cord from the hook when the Vided with a notch formed 11 on one side folded portion is placed within said notch thereof, a hook fixedly secured at one end formed in said plate.
to said plate, said hook provided with a In testimony whereof I hereunto atlix my 5 folded portion, said folded portion opensignature in presence of two Witnesses in inwardly and ada ted to normally fit s 7 Wi thin said notch portidn, said hookadapted JODE} GRLUORY' to clamp the cord between the inner face of \Vitnesses:
the plate and the body of the hook, and said Jnssn H. SCHAPER, 10 folded portion adapted to prevent the re- Anons'r LAUMANN.
