Description

J. BEN N ER.
Fireplace Stove.
Nm 95,972. Patented Oct.. 19, 1869.
` lnitedtaie gaat' eww.
Letters .Patent No.195,972, dated October 19. 1869.
IMPRO'VEMENT IN FIRE-PLACE STOVES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAcoB BENNER, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in combining with the front flue-plate a water-chamber, so arranged with relation to the smoke-due of the stove that the lower sides of the front and back portion of vsaid flue shall be of different temperatures, thereby preventing the stove from smoking.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying'drawings, which form part of my specification Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improvement in heating-stoves.
Figure 2 is a-vertical section of the same, when cut through at line y. p
In the drawings- A represents theash-pan.
B represents the grate, which is surrounded by an air-chamber, O, which is also surrounded by another air-chamber, O, which extends to the top of the stove, and surrounds that portion of the smoke-flue which is near the top of the stove.
represents a damper, or valve, used for regulating the draught of the ue D.
f represents a water-chamber, the bottom of which is formed by the front flue-plate l.
By filling the Water-chamber f with water, the lower part of the ue-plate 1 will always be cooler than the back plate 2, and thereby cause the smoke to be attracted toward it, which will prevent the stove from smoking; and the plate 1 being cooler than plate 2, the ame will be attracted toward it, which will bring the ame on an angle corresponding to the curves of the back plate 2.
The front mis provided with openings 4, which communicate with the air-chamber C, thereby allowing the heated air of chamber C to escape into the room.
The front openings of the tire-place and grate are provided with curved sliding doors 3, which are constructed and operate in the manner common to such doors.
Having thus described the nature, construction, and operation of my improvement,
What I claim, as of my invention, is
A waterchamber,in combination with the inclined front flue-plate 1, constructed, arranged, and operating in the manner and for the purpose herein described.
J AOOB BENNER.
