Description

T. W. BAIRD.
FIREPLACE.
No. 106,985. Patented Sept, 6,1870x tinned slam @utent Qtflilire.
Letters Patent No. 106,985, dated September 6, 1870..
FIRE-PLACE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making partof the same To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, THOMASW. Benn), of Bowling Green, in the county of Warren and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fire-Places for Grates; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part'of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved fire-place.
Figure 2 is a vertical central section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new fire-place for grates, and has for its object to increase the radiating-surface back of the tire, so as thereby to augment the heating capacity of the same.
The invention consists in causing the sides, top, and bottom of the fireplace to converge to one point, and to thereby form oblique surfaces, from which the rays of heat will be radiated directly into the room,
the cavity in rear of the fire being of pyramidal form A in the drawing represents the grate, of suitable construction.
B is the fire-place. Its sides, a a, top, I), and bottom, 0, all converge to one point, ornearly so, and form thus oblique surfaces, which will reflect the rays of heat directly into the room.
The lower side 0 is shorter than the others, as shown, to admit the basket-grate. The angle at which the sides of the fire-place meet, and the number of such sides, may be varied at will.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent- A fire-place constructed of converging planes, sub stantially as herein shown and described.
